As soon as I see the German Ollian clips up I watch them to see if I can tell what is going on. I just watched today's episode (06/11/2008) and I think I followed along pretty good. It's interesting to just watch the facial expressions and their mood to see if you can tell what's up. Today's was so good! Can't wait to actually read what's going on.
What about you? Do you wait for the subtitled version? (assuming you can't speak German)
Does anybody know if there are fans doing other languages?

ollian
i watch it as soon as i can. there is NO WAY i could wait for the subtitles, with the video right there, tempting me. it allows me to analyze the facial expressions and body language of the boys without being distracted by reading the subtitles. im so lame, and i dont care.
ive seen the ollian story translated into spanish and italian on youtube as well.
Language vs facial expresseion
Well, German is my mother tongue and I do get DasErste, so my answer is not really relevant, but I do LOVE Thores facial expressions! Real perfection sometimes! Little tiny expressions which you only see after a second+ viewing. Sometimes I think that he is very stiff when standing upright (especially in the neck-area), but his facial expressions are very often spot on!
Sorry, I go get a life now.
BTW, I've seen Ollian episodes/clips translated into Italian.

hello jude!
nice to see you again! ... i love watching Ollian in any language but i do sometimes get lost.... Thore and Jo are such great actors that you can truly feel the emotions they convey... but sometimes it's hard to follow what's really going on or why both Christian and Olli felt that way.... and it's really nice to read all the sweet nothings they say.. and ofcourse.. the declaration of their love... but i can't wait for the translations knowing that ivan has already posted the "sub-less" clip.... it's already there.. just a few keystrokes away.... I CAN'T HELP IT!!!!! i'm darn weak... Ollian makes me weak...
and thank you guys (specially to wolfi, lolaruns and all our german speaking readers) for explaining the complexities of translating german text to english.... i'm already so thankful for nana but with what you've all said (in a recent forum about translation accuracy)... i'm ready to go down on my knees and worship her! if nana (ichglotzutube) is reading this.... thank you so much for all your hard work... you have made thousands of non-german speaking readers really really happy everyday... thank you St. Nana!!!!
Can't Wait
I always watch the German one as soon as Ivan posts it to YouTube. It's fun to see how much sense I can make out of it, plus I like the sound of their voices speaking German.
Besides, they do such a good job with their faces and bodies that a lot of the context is there even if the language isn't.
Glad I'm not the only one
Glad I'm not the only one who watches the German version first then keeps obsessively checking Gays of Daytime for the English subtitles.
Did you catch today's episode? That was a pretty intense love scene-- serious chest kissing action! Focus on the Family would have an absolute heart attack if this was shown on American TV.
The 6-11-2008 VL Clip with English is ready

I haven't watched it yet but based on watching the German clip this is what I think happened.
Christian didn't tell Wollie the truth about Olli but he did stand up for himself and Wollie didn't like it. I think he said some more bad stuff about Olli and Gregor overheard...he was standing close by. Christian went back to the apartment and told Olli about Wollie. Gregor stopped by to yell at him for being such an ass and betraying his friend, Olli by allowing Wollie to talk smack. Christian walked off and Olli told gregor to ease up. Christian pulled out the pics of his father and thought about how his dad wanted him to be a boxer. I caught the word gay so I think he is thinking how upset he'd be with him because he's losing his boxing chance and he's gay. Then all is well and they sit down together at No Limits...I have no idea what is being said, but it seemed good. I think Gregor may be suspicious that something is being hidden from him. Oh...and Olli walked in when Christian was thinking about his dad but Christian said something out loud that made Olli think he needed his space...so he left.
Anyway...after No Limits Christian is alone and Olli goes to his room. They talk...about family I think and I bet it has something to do with how important Gregor is to Christian. Then they get all romantic...very cute head on shoulder scene and next comes the sex. Then bam...Gregor walks in.
Now...lets see if I was close.
Hmmm...I was kinda close...
I hit the board...no where near the bulls eye.
I don't wanna ruin anything...go watch the clip. It's a good one.
Coldplay...Fix You.
Excellent music selection.
I loved the "Okay?" and wink from Christian at 1:24.
I usually wait for the translations by Nanna.
I usually wait for the English translation to be posted by Nanna, but it's getting increasingly difficult to withstand the wait. I almost gave in today, but managed to hold out. Well i'm off and running over to YouTube since the English subtitles have been posted. I heard today's episode is stella!!
Multi-Tasking
I watch the episodes in German several times. That way I can stare at Olli and imagine how adorable our children would be, and pick up a bit of German along the way.
I'm actually surprised at how much I'm picking up. My guesses on what's happening are getting more and more acurate.
SPOILER
No fair that the preview from last week is the last moment of the show. We still have to wait to see Gregor's reaction.
Was it weird that there was no music behind the love scene?
I was saddened when Christian described himself as a disapointment because he's gay. He still has a journey to go on.
But could someone please tell me what is up with that stuffed chicken? It freaks me out.

The Stuffed Chicken!
That's funny, because I was showing my roommate the clip and his first response was: "What's up with the stuffed chicken?"
I relented and watched the episode in German today, too, before just now watching the subtitled version; even though I don't understand the language (yet!), I was able to get the gist of the episode thanks to body language and vocal inflection.
Great, great episode, though I have one minor quibble which I'll raise when it's posted on the blog.

The chicken …
Ivan (the guy who makes the videos) has found the chicken and he even bought one. And apparently it has rainbow-colored tail-feathers! I love the set-designers on FL.
Sorry to be OT.
Ugh...24 more hours!
I saw in the comment section that we'll get to see the full reaction tomorrow. I bet he'll be shocked but okay with it...more hurt that Christian wouldn't tell him.
I'm not sure how I feel about Christian being concerned that his father would be dissapointed he is gay. I'm not familiar with his dad too much. Maybe it's true...it doesn't mean he's dissappointed he's gay.
Hmmm...gay. They keep calling themselves gay. Does this mean that they are not bisexual? Or do bisexual people label themselves based on which relationship they are in at the moment? Help me out bi folk.
I noticed the chicken too...it's cute.
I also noticed...just an observation...the flat mates are all green. The carry their own bags to the grocery when they shop. They also walk everywhere. But then I've read that German is a very green nation. *thumbs up* It only makes the Germans hotter.
It's just Christians' presumptions
I'm not sure how I feel about Christian being concerned that his father would be dissapointed he is gay. I'm not familiar with his dad too much. Maybe it's true...it doesn't mean he's dissappointed he's gay.
Chris' father died about half a year ago. So he's presuming what his father would have thought about his lifestyle and failings.
Like Christian presumes that Gregor would be upset if he finds out about his relationship with Oli. If that turns out to be true, we'll see tomorrow... (I haven't read any spoilers....^^)
I think Chris' insecurity about the reaction of his family if dead or alive just reflects his own insecurity at that point. Taking into account what he learned about himself during the last couple of weeks it's more than understandable.Christian
Well, realistically-speaking, how many fathers do you know who would be happy to learn that their son is gay? There was a great article about this somewhere, but I can't remember where. But the truth is that even many of the most liberal, gay-friendly people will candidly admit that they wouldn't want their child to be gay.
While Germany has gotten better in (quite a bit better in fact) in recent years it wasn't always a gay-friendly place, and many Nazi-era anti-gay laws remained on the books for decades. A man of Christian's father's generation very likely wasn't all that positive towards homosexuality. It's Christian's fears about Gregor that are so perplexing, given that Gregor has been shown to be very gay-friendly. But under the butch exterior Christian is a pretty insecure guy.
The actual word they keep using to describe themselves is "schwul" which essentially means "gay". Not sure why they don't self-identify as bisexual, or at least why Christian doesn't. Maybe the writers think that getting into a discussion about the finer nuances of the Kinsey Scale would be too clinical for the audience?
Hey...Cher wasn't happy to have a lesbian daughter
Even Cher admits that she was not happy at first to have a lesbian daughter. I understand that part...I was just wondering if maybe there was something about the dad that made him really be sure of it. Like was the dad always pushing him into sports or was he real macho? Kind of like a Texas high school football dad.
As far as Gregor goes...I think we're always the most nervous about the ones we love.
Today's VL episode
Today, they explicitely said that Olli was "bi". Christian wasn't described as gay, only as "in love with Olli"....
Just to explain a bit: "Schwul" only refers to "man/man" and never ever to lesbians. I think the writers use it to emphasize the commitment between Christian and Olli... schwul as in "there won't be a girl (in the near future)".
The usage of "gay" really
The usage of "gay" really is annoying. VL is very murky on gay vs. bisexual. It seems that the characters use gay to mean any "man on man sexing took place" with no look at the larger picture. Olli is bisexual and has referred to himself as that many times in the past, but even he seems to accept the shorthand of gay when it comes up. Still, I'm disappointed that he never brings bisexual up with Christian, because it might make it easier for Christian to truly think and grasp what he is and wants.
Everything we have seen of Christian's dad implies strongly that all this fear is all in Christian's head. This isn't a Captain Pervy we are talking about. Christian's father was a broken man who was taking small steps to redeem himself and get back to normalcy and who was overflowing with guilt over the things Christian did for him. Nothing can convince me that he would have pushed his son away and been disappointed in him considering that (1) he never achieved anything in life other than fathering ridiculously attractive sons (2) Christian was always the sole person who stood by his father and loved him despite everything. Sure, there might have been a moment of disappointment, but again, his father felt so guilty regarding Christian, unless there was an angle we are not aware of (like a religious one, something the show has never given an indication of), Christian's dad just wanted Christian to be happy.
This has always been one of the core conflicts between Christian and Gregor as brothers. Let's just say, if Christian's father had been a wifebeater, Christian would have been the wife who stays and makes excuses for him and Gregor would have been the wife who dumps his ass and cuts all ties with him. Back when Christian joined the show, long before Olli came along they had countless arguments along the lines of:
Gregor: Stop being in denial, our father was a gambler and our childhood was horrible
Christian: Our father might have made mistakes but he truly loved us, how can you be so disloyal?
I'll be really sad if the issue of their dad isn't brought up in Christian's conversation with Gregor tomorrow. I really hope that the brothers talk it out properly.
Green
Being green is something they teach us in kindergarten. The green movement was really strong in the 80s and early 90s (Chernobyl, anyone?) and people in the Judith/Christian age group have most likely been "brainwashed" their whole life. (I notice it in myself sometimes. Whenever I'm abroad and see how people not recycle or let the water tap run unnecessarily ... it hurts physically to watch.)
Walking everywhere is another thing: I'm sure that not one of them even owns a car. If you're a student, you simply don't need one.
I watch the....
I watch the clips before and after the subtitles. without the subtitles, i just make up dialogue. hehe :-P
German version vs. English version 6-12-2008
Today's version was a case of the English version being better than I imagined. I got the overall feel of the episode from the German version but I did misinterpret a few things. I thought Gregor was a being a big asshole but I realize that the guys weren't giving him a chance to speak. I was so glad that he told Gregor he loved Olli. I even understood when he said it in the German version...I'm bi (bilingual...I'm gonna apply at the UN. Think they'll hire me?)
More than anything in this episode I think it was about the brothers. Wow...I was just blown away by their chat. I mean...it's not like I haven't read similar stuff in gay novels...but it's just good to see them communicating like they do in this soap. They really do talk things out.
Christian looked like the bigger butt...*dreams* Butt...why oh why didn't Olli let him get out of that bed nekkid?
What a nice article is it.
I finish all the episodes up to now in 2 days
