Thanks so much for the link! This is *wonderful*. Torchwood in Dr. Who, I can't wait to watch this episode, especially since we're getting a glimpse of a Jack/Ianto hug in the short trailer. :-) YEAH!
I really miss Torchwood and hope we won't have to wait too long for the third season.
In "Exit Wounds" I was struck by the fact that Gwen hugs Jack, but Jack hugs Ianto. I suppose if I were Gwen, I'd grab Jack whenever he walked by as well. But it's Ianto that Jack himself really clings to, he sort of just hugs Gwen back.
I seem to recall the BBC (or maybe RTD himself) saying that Jack would be the only Torchwood character crossing over to appear on Doctor Who. I guess they changed their minds about that. Although, from the look of things Ianto and Gwen may not actually meet the Doctor as their action scenes seem to be taking place within the Hub.
As one of my friends constantly points out to me, when it comes to Who, RTD frequently says things that are not true, along the lines of "We'll never do that on the show!" and then doing it. I believe he said at one point that he would never bring the Master back. I suspect he enjoys misleading the press and then springing big surprises on us all, narratively speaking.
Frankly, I couldn't see Jack leaving the Team again without saying where he was going, especially after "Exit Wounds," but I am glad that we get to see Gwen and Ianto kicking some Dalek butt. :D And I do hope that they finally get to meet the Doctor.
Looking at the preview I don't see the Doctor in any of the shots with with the Torchwood team or Sarah Jane. They could easily have filmed their scenes of these episodes separately during the filming for their own shows and then the segments were added to the Doctor Who episodes. It's only a semi-crossover. One would expect a global invasion to impact the other Whoneverse spinoffs set on present day Earth. But that doesn't mean they interact with the Doctor during the course of it.
That said, I would love to see the Doctor whisk Janto off in the TARDIS as companions!
I also noticed that from the Gwen,Jack&Ianto scene,it`s very clear they are hanging out in their usual work place. It is possible that they wrote and shot this way so the crossover won`t be leaked to the media too soon, since it`s all indoor scenes.I`m pretty sure they shot the scenes the same time filming Torchwood Season 2,which also helps saving money.
Whether gwen & ianto will get to meet up with the doctor is still unknown.[probably no]But the clip clearly shows that they are fighting the some thing.[I won`t give away what exactly cause some people might still haven`t figure it out.]So many characters in one episode, even get everybody to meet each other will be chaos. So I think RTD is doing the right thing by dividing the characters into small groups.
[some spoilers]
Jack will definitely team up with the doctor again.Early leaked pictures shows that John Barrowman were shooting some major scenes with Billie Piper and David Tennant.
might bit a bit too much for the DW audience to handle,I mean two male companion at the same time, and let`s not forget they are lovers. And what exactly do you expect the doctor to do with those two(OK,some VERY naughty thought just pop up in my head so let`s not answer that.XD )
Something with a stopwatch, for starters. Naked Hide & Seek (though, as Ianto points out, "[Jack] cheats; he always cheats"). The list just goes on from there.
Well, just think how much more fun and challenging it would be within the dimensionally transcendental labyrinth that is the TARDIS. Pity the Doctor jettisoned the pool way back when, but maybe he's put in another since?
I mean come on. We had the handsome young gentleman having a pretty obvious affair with a servant this last go around. I loved when the Doctor shouted "show yourself" and they all came out of their various rooms. The cute guy and the butler boy both noticably disheveled.
Okay, no direct onscreen kissing. But at this point how many Doctor Who watching kids are tuning into Torchwood too anyway?
I really liked the suggestion someone put out on my lj fl that in the last scene should be Jack saying goodbye to the Doctor on the TARDIS, Ianto pops in with a cup of tea, the Doctor changes his mind and they all run off to explore the universe.
Actually, I would consider it a 3-part finale starting with this week's episode, 4x11 Turn Left. Think of this episode as the prologue to the big finale. Fans of the RTD era of Doctor Who (and its spin-offs) will want to watch and listen carefully for many references that might escape the notice of more casual fans.
I also found this sneak preview of 4x12 Stolen Earth (with only minor spoilers - the trailers give away more):
"Episode 12 is ABSOLUTELY BLEEDIN' MENTAL and
SUPER-DOOPER-FANWANKY. They'll have to power-hose the squee off the
walls of the Outpost Gallifrey forums a week on Saturday.
"It feels a bit like a nostalgic Russell flicked through Doctor Who: The Encyclopedia
and went 'Oooh, yeah, that was good - I'll have some of that. And them.
And her. And bring in that wotsit from that throwaway line in episode
X.' Whilst throwing his head back, hooting with laughter, and booming
'MARVELLOUS!' It's like watching the entire new series so far
compressed into a blipvert.
except for one small thing. People who only watch Torchwood (weirdos :P) and just want to see more Jack and Ianto aren't necessarily going to get anything out of "Turn Left;" you really need to have seen the last two seasons of Doctor Who to appreciate it. Then again, if it brings new fans to the show, I'm all for it.
I'd hazard to say that "Midnight," also from RTD, is a sort of prologue to the finale, because it reinforces this seasons themes and really shows the Doctor's fallibility when he's on his own.
Nothing for the exclusive Torchwoodie in Turn Left. There is some previous knowledge needed to see the bigger picture, but Im guessing that would not prevent them to enjoy the ride of the next episodes. Nice setup.
Well you can get something from "Turn Left" like
inspiration for supper angst Janto fanfics. (Because Fanfiction if for Slash,
and there needs to be more of it). Ok, so. So *spoiler*
Turn Left everyone dies
and the Torchies know they are walking into a suicide mission with the Sontaran(sp?)
thing, how do Jack and Ianto spend their last minutes and or hours together. I
want to read a fanfic like this.
Oh and as to like Torchwood fans who don’t watch Doctor Who,
I’m surprised they wouldn’t ‘t have followed Jack over into Utopia, then gone
back and watched the first 3 seasons after that, which is what I did. Just
because it seems natural to want to know what happened to Jack after the S1 finally.
In "Turn Left", when the sky is burning, Rose tells Donna that the Torchwood team was up there dealing with the Sontarans, with Ianto and Gwen sacrificing their lives while Capt Jack has been transported to the Sontaran homeworld.
Similar, Martha Jones and Sarah Jane Smith are mentioned as being involved (and perishing) with the Judoon incident (i.e. hospital being taken to the moon for the plasmovore encounter).
I remembered all the references of Martha, Sarah and Torchwood. For some reason my mind did not register the circunstances. Probably because at the end it did not happen, and I just put it aside.
Although RTD (OBE) is remaining in charge of Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures when he leaves Doctor Who, his plan (supposedly) is to wipe away everything he's created to give Stephen Moffat a blank slate when he takes over. While that probably won't mean every storyline in Who never happened (in which case there's be no Rose, Martha, Donna or Jack), to do this, he needs to unite every main character he's created, so that wherever the finale ends, they all have the same starting point for Moffat in the main show.
Also, there's Jack's missing two years. RTD has said that since Moffat created the character of Jack, only he would be allowed to write that story, and as that's important to both shows, there'd be more of a crossover between the characters.
Or RTD just wants to end on something absolutely epic.
"Turn Left" is a great episode--if you happen to like Donna! She's the whole show, unless you count Rose. And I frankly am not interested in how many times she helped the Doctor save the world. She's starting to overdo the harpie bit, like Maddy in Jonathan Creek. I'm just saying!
Anytime Donna starts to get annoying, just compare her to
Gwen Cooper, and she looks so much better. Seriously though, Gwen and Donna
basically serve the same purpose, speaking up as a conscience and being the
'everyman' in the incredible situation. Yet Donna is never as annoying as Gwen,
and unlike Gwen who should be useful given she's been trained as a police
officer, is actually useful. Donna is a tempt who ends up saving the day with
her every day worker skills, and Gwen just messes things up, gets people
killed, puts everyone's life in danger, and generally makes bad choices. Which is why I like Donna, she so much better than Gwen. Also I liked the whole fact that she saved the world by saving the Doctor, its like anyone can be important.
Just so people know, if you live in the US we're about 2-3 episodes behind the UK. You can watch the episodes on youtube though. I can't wait to see the Torchwood team on Doctor Who! Plus there's a billion other people coming back too. The episode "Turn Left" was good because I like Donna and the whole thing about if she didn't go left and went right instead. It was like "this is what could have happened if you didn't go left..."
There's a great little preview for "The Stolen Earth" on youtube that shows Jack kissing Ianto's (and Gwyn's) hair. They seem to think the world is coming to an end, or something like that.
By the way, I have a new theory about the Doctor. In terms of his own planet, he may yet be a child--after all, he seems to have zero sex drive. Remember Squire Trelane on "Star Trek"? Just a Dalek-inpsired thought.
Just omg, like omg! The Finale was so awesome! Except David Tennant can't go away, I love him. Also, yeah Gwen is officially a slut, the world is ending and she's making eyes at the Doctor.(also surpised she knows who she is because generally she seems to know nothing. what's UNIT, What's a Dalek, what's fedelity?) Oh also loved that the Doctor told Donna to stop when she was looking at Jack. There are so many things I want to say, The Drums, Ianto being so awesome. Ok but, yeah I know teleports can only bring one person without a major charge up and tweaking and Jack didn't know they were about to be attacked by Daleks, but he should have taken Ianto with him. Leave Gwen to the Daleks, please, I don't care. Also loved how Ianto line "those guns don't work on Daleks" but Gwen is like, but we'll use them anyway. Ok i understand going out fighting, but the woman needs to use some common sense, they should be finding an escape route or something.
BunchOfLemons' theory that RTD is giving Moffatt a clean slate is certainly intriguing. It certainly looks like this season's finale is certainly going to be a blow-out and could certainly shake up the Dr Who universe a bit.
I LOVE the mega crossover, but I'm curious about how much all of the characters will cross-over and be able to interact. One little pout from me though... from what I saw, it looks like almost every (currently living) character from all the spin-offs is present except "hot dad" on The Sarah Jane Adventures. :-(
Personally, Sarah Jane Smith has always been my favorite companion so I loved it when they brought her back in "School Reunion" and I'll avidly watch any other episode they bring her back for (she was my first companion along with Tom Baker as the Doctor in "The Brain of Morbius... and come on, if you can sit through THAT episode as your first Doctor Who experience, then you're definitely a fan! or do I mean "lost cause?").
My one concern is: with so many cross-overs and characters, how are they going to manage this plot without it turning into a huge mess? It's a good thing this is a two-parter (three if you start counting from "Turn Left") because there's gotta be a lot going on to keep all of those characters busy.
As for "Turn Left" itself, I thought it was a very interesting premise. I love the title. The idea of such a minor thing having such a dramatic impact on not only your life but the whole world is staggering (sort of the "butterfly flaps its wings in Tokyo" idea but on a much more personal level). And I'm discovering I really like Donna when she's on her own. "The Forest of the Dead" and "The Library" really show how strong a character she is. Is there a reason she keeps getting tossed into alternate realities, though? RTD tends not to throw away anything and there was some forshadowing at the end of "Turn Left" about Donna's importance and that she spun a whole alternate reality around herself, so I wonder if that's going to play a part in the finale as well.
* episode 4x13 will clock in at 65 min, 20 min longer than the usual episode length
That's it for spoilers. The BBC is being very tight-lipped about revealing anything else of significance, although it's been confirmed for months that David Tennant has already filmed scenes for the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special. Infer from that what you will. ;-)
I absolutely loved the latest episode, at the end I was literally shocked. They can't do this, they can't do this! :-) We'll see how it turns out.
Some thoughts on Jack though... Leaving Ianto and Gwen like that?
Transfer control of the subwave network to Torchwood (knowing very well the daleks will be able to track down the source and come over to exterminate them all), "Don't use project indigo! Oh, it works, I'll use it and I'll take the only gun that does something against daleks (what they couldn't make more of those?? Only rose and jack have one, but UNIT doesn't) but I'll come back, ok bye bye". Come back to what? To the dead bodies of your teammates! What, no "Run for your lives", no "I wish I could take you with me", no nothing.
I noticed the fouth or fifth time watching it that Gwen and Ianto don't tell Jack that the Daleks have locked onto Torchwood; they're actually quite hushed about it. When he's leaving the repressed emotion is less concern for Jack's going than for themselves, being unsure they'll be there when he returns.
As a total Doctor Who fan and Torchwood fan I was pumped up for this episode. I'm in London (Regents College TV room is the best! Thanks for letting me watch DW), so I got to watch it when it was on BBC1. Anyway I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. I think the episode was amazing except for when the Doctor saw Rose again. I mean come on a running to each other reunion? I'm not a big Rose fan, so forgive me that I'm bitter over that reunion. I was so upset they ended the episode the way they did. I yelled at the tv "You can't do that!" which I think freaked out a couple of random people who were sitting with me.
I can't wait for this weeks episode and to tell my friend what happens since she's already mad that I get to watch when it first comes on and not on youtube or something.
If you're concerned about the fate of the Doctor after watching "The Stolen Earth," it seems the show's producers are too. According to Wenn News, Robert ("The Full Monty"; "Trainspotting") Carlyle has been approached to play the next Doctor. If Tennant has to go (he's probably planning to cash in on his phenomenal popularity in the UK), I can think of a better replacement than Carlyle, who has played gay and gay-friendly characters in several films. The sparks might intensify between The Doctor and Jack as well. By the way, Tennant is slated to appear as Hamlet at the RSC this fall; when I tried to book tickets last spring, the run of the show was already sold out.
This rumor has been around for years, and Carlyle has repeatedly denied it. If anyone is worried about David Tennant, I say relax. Some people have been invoking the ghost of Billie Piper's departure, which was denied until the end, BUT if Tennant were leaving it would be one of the most amazing hoaxes in entertainment history:
He's reportedly been offered 1.3 million pounds for series 5 in 2010, as well as his choice of projects in the downtime.
He's said on more than one occasion that he'd like to beat Tom Baker's record of seven years as the Doctor.
He's been seen (filmed and photographed) filming this year's Christmas special.
Moffat clearly expects to be working with Tennant, as his River Song character from the Doctor's future recognized him from "early days."
Well the rumor is that David isn't leaving the show, at least not yet. Something will be happening to where the regeneration goes wrong. I'm not saying that's what's going to happen, but it's what people are saying.
As for David in Hamlet I was looking up the show and it starts at the end of July (when I'm leaving London.) I wish I could go see it, but since David's in it everyone and their grandma are going to see it.

I'm so glad someone reminded me we Yanks can catch up with the 3-episode jet lag on YouTube. I just finished "Turn Left" and I've watched the intro segment of "Stolen Earth." I can't believe what a freakin' fanboy I'm turning into. The opening of this episode is so much fun--like Mouseketeer roll call--and tell me that the last shot before the opening credits isn't a total homage to Terminator 2.
I got to watch the episode yet again when it was first on. (Thanks to going to school in London for the month I don't have to rely on youtube.) I thought it was kind of good, but it could have been better.
Ok spoilers are to come in the next part, so be prepared!
I'm quite upset with the Donna story line. I thougth Donna was a great asst. to the doctor because she was so funny and as Catherine Tate said, "She knows he's an alien. So she doesn't have a crush on him." I had tears in my eyes at the end when the Doctor left Donna at her home and she didn't even know who he was.
Jack had a great one liner about 3 doctors (kind of, with Donna, the part human/time lord doctor, and the real doctor) he said something along teh lines of, "I can't even say what I'm thinking." Which really he didn't because I knew what he was thinking. That dirty Jack! The Trochwood team was barely in the episode, but never the less they had a moment or two.
And last but not least, they're setting it up for Martha and Mickey to come on to Torchwood next season. With Martha and Jack leaving together and he asked if she wanted to leave UNIT and then Mickey catching up to walk with them. So maybe the rumors are true about Martha and Mickey coming to Torchwood. It's that or the producers are just playing with everyone because of the rumor.
I YouTubed "Journey's End" yesterday, and it was really, really good! (Spoilers in the next paragraph.)
The last 10 minutes were utterly satisfying to me. Revisiting that beach in Norway made me as emotional as it did the other time they went there, with the (first) Rose kiss-off. That was damn good writing, satisfying to fanboys and romantics alike. And Catherine Tate's work in this episode -- particularly after her "mind-meld" -- was quite amazing. And rather ironic that the premise that made her most unforgettable was the plot point that takes her off the show. RTD did a beautiful job here, and he juggled several balls impressively. (No...I'll be refined for once and not go anywhere with the "balls" reference.)
Thanks so much for the

I've noticed that a few people overlooked this in the trailer...
I'm excited too, but Gwen's on the other side of Jack. It's a group hug - not just Jack/Ianto. NOT that there's anything wrong with that. ;)
Life's a banquet, and most poor suckers are starving to death!
It's all good
Guess they changed their minds
Russell likes to trick us
As one of my friends constantly points out to me, when it comes to Who, RTD frequently says things that are not true, along the lines of "We'll never do that on the show!" and then doing it. There's a great little preview for "The Stolen Earth" on youtube that shows Jack kissing Ianto's (and Gwyn's) hair. They seem to think the world is coming to an end, or something like that.

The "Clean Slate" theory is intriguing
BunchOfLemons' theory that RTD is giving Moffatt a clean slate is certainly intriguing. It certainly looks like this season's finale is certainly going to be a blow-out and could certainly shake up the Dr Who universe a bit.

That said, I can't wait to see what happens next!

Some minor spoilers for Doctor Who 4x13 Journey's End:

That's it for spoilers. The BBC is being very tight-lipped about revealing anything else of significance, although it's been confirmed for months that David Tennant has already filmed scenes for the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special. Infer from that what you will. ;-)

Thanks RJ
Thanks RJ for the clips. Cant wait to see how this turns out. A little busy, but it was a nice set up.
Im thinking the Christmas special takes place before the recent episodes or it would involve flashbacks. We well see.
Ohh, its a shame about Tennant.
I absolutely loved the
I absolutely loved the latest episode, at the end I was literally shocked.
What, no "Run for your lives", no "I wish I could take you with me", no nothing.
multiple repeat viewings
I loved this one!
Is the Doctor out?

"It takes a village (to make Village People)"
If you're concerned about the fate of the Doctor after watching "The Stolen Earth," it seems the show's producers are too.
Not Carlyle
I know about David
Well the rumor is that David isn't leaving the show, at least not yet. Something will be happening to where the regeneration goes wrong. I'm not saying that's what's going to happen, but it's what people are saying.
As for David in Hamlet I was looking up the show and it starts at the end of July (when I'm leaving London.) I wish I could go see it, but since David's in it everyone and their grandma are going to see it.

Gotta love the Yute
I'm so glad someone reminded me we Yanks can catch up with the 3-episode jet lag on YouTube. I just finished "Turn Left" and I've watched the intro segment of "Stolen Earth." I can't believe what a freakin' fanboy I'm turning into. The opening of this episode is so much fun--like Mouseketeer roll call--and tell me that the last shot before the opening credits isn't a total homage to Terminator 2.
Read the blog. Love the blog. Even if the blog's creator is a freakin' fanboy.
Season finale!
The season finale!
Read the blog. Love the blog. Juggle your balls in a blogward direction.
