Came into series just recently

We only just started watching Torchwood with the 110 episode from series one.. question: why is John the only one not speaking with a british accent?  I thought he was from Wales?

John is Scottish but lived

John is Scottish but lived in America, and is bi-dialectical which means he has both an American accent and a Scotish accent. And I guess the Doctor Who creators wanted Captain Jack to sound American because its exotic or something.

Oh and recommendation, I got into Torchwood with that episode with fairies. (I like fairies, I'm a mythology nerd so loved the evil fairies). So I only caught the last few eps of the first season. So from experience, it helps to go back and watch the first two seasons of doctor who, then the whole of Torchwood season one, then season 3 of Doctor Who, and then Season 2 of Torchwood.

The reason Captian Jack has

The reason Captian Jack has an Amercian accent is because that's what the producers wanted the charater as. An American. I don't don't know why they wanted him with an American accent, but I kind of like it. It's a nice change sometimes from all thr British and Welsh accents. (Not that I'm saying those accents aren't bad or anything. I kind of have two accents at the moment as well) Plus the real Captain Jack Harkness, who is in season one, episode 12, is American, so maybe that also has something to do with it. You never really know because Jack is a man of mystery.

John Barrowman talks with an American accent 98% of time. In interviews that ask him about his Scottish accent and he'll go into it for a few seconds, but will change back into his American one again. He learned it while living in the states because kids use to make fun of his Scottish accent. When he's with his family he uses his Scottish accent.
