I had no expectations; great cast, it looked like, missed it Thursday; forgot actually; then saw it was on Saturday (after Suze Orman) ... but thank you, Sordid Lives, for THE laugh of the television season with the "Act I" closer with Margaret Cho and her patient -- when you say LOL, you usually don't mean it but I literally SCREAMED; it was perfectly executed .... "You work in Beverly Hills" .... with the therapist turning on her client .... TOO funny; the entire cast is amazing; I was crying at the Tammy Wynette stuff, beautifully acted by ... sorry I don't know the actor's name, played Beverly Lesley on Will and Grace (should have researched this before writing it) but he played the tears for real which worked VERY well (in fact, ppl might have missed that); I would equate it to the news of, say, Liza dying -- he did it honestly and then went for the broader laughs in closing; but, perhaps the revelation of the half hour was the woman who always plays that part -- Beth Grant -- perfect, absolute perfection! Not to mention the always reliable Rue McClanahan and the interesting choice of Ms. Olivia Newton John -- beautiful opening voice by the way -- are they headed to a lesbian relationship? (nice parody on the Grease get up too) -- just inspired, funny, well edited; Caroline Rhea excellent part -- Bonnie Bedelia, looking gorgeous and very funny -- I'll get to know everyone's name, I'm sure; this is destined to be a classic piece of television -- bravo, Del Shores; I never heard of you but you are the next Marc Cherry! LOL well, not really LOL but hey it seemed like an LOL moment -- now the show, literally ROTFL ...
I admit I never saw the play or movie (will have to do so); but after seeing the interviews on Logo and learning that Caroline was offered the part of Noleta after Delta Buke had to back out, I'd have to say they made a TERRIFIC choice! She cracks me up totally ("I don't wan' be trash no more...."). She's so convincing!
While I think Delta was great in the movie, I think Caroline is even funnier in the series. I just love the way she screams "IT GIVES ME THE HAYBEEJAYBEES!"
This show has completely exceeded my expectations. The scripts are hilarious, Jason Dottley is hot, and the actresses, well, let's just say they knock it out of the park. Thanks, Logo, for bringing it to the screen.
And what a coup that they got Tammy Wynette's daughter to be a recurring character. It's rare that anyone associated with country music would do anything this gay. Hats off to Georgette Jones for not taking herself too seriously.
I strongly encourage people to catch this if they get Logo. Especially if you like trashy southern humor-- this is the show for you.
Wow
Sordid Lives - just watched Sat at 10p
