Episode 3

Anybody else have a chance to see epi 3 yet? I'm watching it on youtube, since I'm unable to stay up late on Tuesday nights.

Kyle's storyline is still a bit lame to me, though Adam Grimes sure is nice to look at. Kyle has just moved into an apartment with fellow intern Claire (Carrie Southworth); naturally, they're already bickering, which is mirrored in last night's episode with another pair of roommates, the female half of which is seeking medical aid for her severe PMS; the male half of that couple isn't declared to be gay, but it's implied, especially when he offers to marry her so that she can be on his insurance. Now, this leads Claire to make the following suggestion to Kyle:

I don't know, has anybody here ever made such an offer or agreed to such a pact? Many complain that the Kyle/Claire relationship is too George/Izzy from Grey's Anatomy--I don't know, I don't watch that show. While Grimes and Southworth play off each other well, their story is too lightweight so far to really make for compelling viewing.

(And the lead couple on the show, Robin and some dude whose name I don't know, are insufferably bland and boring; the Toussaint/Epiphany s/l is predictable; only the Saira/Leo storyline boasts strong writing and acting--oh, and the guy who plays Leo is HOT!)

I kind of like the show

I went in kind of skeptical because it is a soap opera.  But after watcing the first couple of episodes, the show has grown on me.  It'll always be a soap opera, and I'm not too wild about some of the other characters on the show, but I like the interaction between Kyle and Claire.  I know I'll watch the show, but only the parts that have Kyle in it.  I'll end up skipping over the other soapy crap.

It would be great if

It would be great if somebody could keep us updated on the progress of Kyle's character. I have great hopes for this soap.

General Hospital: Night Shift has better writing

I have to admit this show and its cast including Kyle, the gay character, have kinda grown on me. Last night's episode was well done where among all the mayhem going on, gay intern Kyle and the hospital staff have to deal with a lesbian couple facing the death of one of the women, the dying woman's disapproving mother and homophobic father, and the desire of the surviving partner to harvest eggs from her dying unconscious partner so the survivor can carry them to term to have the family they always wanted and were already working on starting. Kyle's expression of seeing himself and his desire for a family when he sees the situation the women are facing (even though he knows having a family for gay couples is not be as easy as it is for straight couples) was very powerful, and something I have never heard expressed in any show or movie (and I've seen a lot). In that one speech Kyle showed more depth as a gay character than the majority of gay characters ever presented on tv. I was impressed that GH: Night Shift dealt with such real-world perspectives and problems. It appears they hired some decent writers and it shows.

About GH: Night Shift

I've really grown to like General Hospital: Night Shift and am very impressed with the writing and acting--perhaps it's the fact that it's one episode a week rather than 5 a week, I don't know. But if you check out the threads over at SoapCental.com, most of the GH fans seem to feel the writing is better than the mothership.

Lola, right now Kyle is limited to interaction with the patients and fellow doctors, especially Claire, who's also his roommate, and Leo, his brother, whom he'd always thought was homophobic until last night's episode, when Leo told off the mother and father mentioned in GaySpouse's post after they insulted Kyle. No word yet if Kyle will be getting a romance, although in next week's episode, Claire apparently signs him up at an internet dating website without telling him.

I wish there were just Kyle-centric clips available on YouTube, but thus far it's entire episodes.

Kyle--Adam Grimes

I think Night Shift is getting better week by week.  Maybe it is because we are past the introduction stage and we know the new characters better.

One thing I am loving is Klye and Claire's webepisodes. There are now four episodes and they just feature the two of them.  "Moving In" is the first episode, and I promise you won't be disappointed.

Also Adam Grimes has a my space page with some whacked out Kermit videos that are disturbingly funny.
