Adam "The Shank" Shankman on same-sex partnering on SYTYCD
While some dancers, including Cheryl Burke from Dancing With the Not much of a read as the focus is on the Lance Bass thing, which I am afraid could be used for curbside appeal rather than inclusion. My first thought is that SYTYCD could make it work by incorporating it into the latter part of the contest by having one or two weeks of same sex partnering to expand the showcase when they start the switch-ups. Who knows.... It would be "interesting" to say the least as I still get a kick (and have to do a double take) when I see same sex partners two-stepping. On the other hand, we all need to keep getting kicked in the pants as inclusion and diversity can lead to better shows and not just long overdue to representation.

Same Sex Dancing
Not gonna happen!
As soon as I read the "news" about Lance joining Dancing with the Stars, I thought when will the rumors start that he will have a same-sex partner. It is free publicity, leak a rumor and thousands blog about it. Later, after all the juice is gone from the original rumor, either Lance or the show will anounce that it never intended for Lance to have a same-sex partner. If there is a same-sex dance it will be played a one time event with all the side show hoopla.
As far as SYTYCD, it would be much easier to incorporate same-sex dance in that show because it includes more dance variety. I have always thought the first weeks are designed to allow the judges to influence who stays in the show til the top 10 - which is the tour group- but it would be better if the couples were randomly paired every week.
I felt Mark/Thane were forced to dance with the least talented of the girls while Joshua and Twitch were given more talented dancers as partners. If you think it is random then you believe that it was just luck that Twitch and Comfort drew Hip Hop. If you believe that I have a house in the French Quarter I'd like to sell you - there is no water damage -honest. I think a two same-sex couples every week would work well or better yet put everybody in the hat one person draws a partner and the partner draws two dances which the couple then decides which to choose.
This would allow the dancers more choices, the judges wouldn't have to tell us how they are "out of their element", and the bottom two dancers would be eliminated regardless of sex. That won't happen though because Nigel knows that the girls would quickly be voted of leading to a mostly male cast by the end. I wish that Bravo would do a dance show like that instead of Step-up.
