After a solid year of Nuke insults and disappointments, you should know better than to believe ANYTHING the ATWT publicity machine says about exciting new front-burner storylines to come for Nuke, especially if they trot out writer Jean P. and Van Hansis to allay fans' fears. It has happened repeatedly over the past year, and the results have always been even worse than was feared in terms of idiotic storyline and lack of screentime.
I fully expect that when Jake returns from his alleged "vacation", Nuke will immediately segue into some contrived drivel of a story that keeps them apart, and we will see it played out in all its glory for one episode a week in October. There may be a few of their patented tight-lipped grandma kisses thrown in to mollify the Nuke fanatics.
Then I am sure it will be time for Van to take his "vacation" for X amount of weeks, and we will return to the same dull marking time when he returns. Lather, rinse, repeat. Hey, it's worked for an entire year, why mess with a successful formula?
Yeah. I think so. Depends what you mean by good. If you mean the guys knocking boots, I don't know if it's going to happen. I know to a lot of fans that's the only thing that matters with this couple. Myself, I thought it would happen this summer, but it didn't. Oh well. But in terms of story, I think it has the potential to be the best arc the guys have had since the initial love story that started it all.
Wasn't this summer supposed to be the BIG SUMMER of Nuke?
When all the Nuke lovin' would be front and center? And what
did we get? Once a week, twice if we were lucky. Hey, stupid ME -- I actually kept track! Here's the tally: June 2-6, twice; June 9-13, twice (including the "break-up"); June 16-20, twice; June 23-27, once; June 30-July 4, once (Pride Day); July 7-11, once; June 14-18, twice, and one Luke only; July 21-25, once; July 28-August 1, once; August 4-8, once, Luke only; August 11-15, nothing; August 18-22, twice; August 25-29, once. That's it -- 3 months and 16 days of appearances by BOTH Luke and Noah. Meanwhile, I watched day after day of Juicy Janet, Liberty and Parker pubescent love, the infuriating Paul and Meg, and poinsoned jewelry. Ugh!
October? They've got to be joking!Maybe it’s finally time to close the book on this “Day Time” experience/experiment and move on?Can I really afford to remain emotionally involved with a show that I still remember rolling my eyes over everyday as a kid during summers spent at my grandmothers’ houses?Don’t get me wrong, I want to remain vested in the story of Luke and Noah.I want to continue being a fan of both Van and Jake; however, at this juncture I must seriously ask myself, “why?”If the answer to that question is that I am reverting to former behavior and so am willing to accept whatever crumbs the non-Gay Community is willing to let fall from their table, then it is definitely time or me to cut all ties and wish everyone left on board the best of luck...
With the entertainment industry providing so many proud, openly gay men and women what does it say about us as a community when week after week we hang on “spoilers” and the brief cameo appearances of two straight men playing gay characters in poorly written roles within a genre defined by its incredulous storylines?Honestly, I don’t have answers for any of these questions so perhaps we can find them together.Maybe the best part of ATWT generally and Nuke in particular is the discussion they generate among like-minded individuals.Or, maybe it’s just the drama created by what would otherwise be an absence of drama?Cheers…
Don't be naive
