ATWT ratings for August 25-29, 2008 - Show is has been bleeding less viewers than its CBS sister shows, but...

it continues to fail at attracting the young females that all the shows want. Lots of numbers, but they don't say much more than that this for me this week, except that focusing on the tots is not doing anything to improve their ratings with the favorite demos or the 12-17 who should be all over Liberty and Parker.

I Think....

that the show had captured a lot of new younger viewers when the Luke/Noah romance was playing this time last year.  They helped the show's ratings rise, something the show readily admitted.   I don't know how many of those viewers are still watching.  Fans clearly did not take to Liberty and Parker and Luke and Noah spent most of the summer on the backburner.  It amazes me that this show squandered all the growth that they achieved.  I think they got a small bump from the return of James..... it will be interesting to see how the ratings react as the story continue.  If they're like me, the ratings will go down because James is not enough to make me endure a crappy show.   In a couple of weeks Dusty returns and I simply can't see viewers flocking to return to see him.  I could be wrong though, the character was incredibly popular.  I just never understood why.  And can only imagine how the show will explain why Dusty isn't dead.   The producers/writers seem to think that we'll be so glad to have Dusty back that we won't care how they bring him back, bascially saying that viewers are stupid and we'll take whatever we give them.  Apparently, they're not looking at the ratings, which say otherwise.  One thing I hope and pray is that the show does not start hinting that Dusty and Noah are somehow related and put them in scenes together again.  Their scenes together were painful to watch, an exercise in bad acting.

I understand James' appeal, Dusty not so much.....

While too much of James can be a bad thing, the show has been good about who they've put in James' horizon. Since I am still trying to stay away from most spoilers, I had no clue to they would be incorporating Henry into the mix and I really enjoyed seeing the underused and ubbertalented actor who plays Henry bring his A-game to yesterday's episode, which had to be one of the most boring in while as Alison's knockers/poisoned puppy/Aaron's cluelessness, only left Henry, Barbara's banter with James, and Vienna's sexy dress as the only highlights of the show. Back to Vienna. That dress on that actress could make a gay man go straight, especially any one reading Details' latest article on guys who think that they were gay but reality weren't.

With regard to Dusty, it's much ado about nothing and I doubt that the ratings will budge. He does serve as a nice visual (who does not look exactly like Mike/HL/Aaron) and has a thugish edge that would make him be the best Paul Ryan recast ever. What these fools need is to score a major home run with re-hiring Martha Byrne and bringing back at least two beloved characters from yesteryear who might be attractive to new-comers and make old-timers feel like they know someone in their "story." I vote for John and Andy Dixon as the actors may not be likely choices for ratings increases, but their characters could serve to give these dim-witted writers many umbrella story opportunities.

I agree with you about about not hinting that Dusty and Noah are related unless they bring hooker with the heart of copper Cheri Love as their mother. I envision Dusty coming back under the following cliched scenarios. A very well orchestrated plan to TRY to save "Johnny" from Craig/unknown harm, or more likely to save "Oakdale" from "Walsh Number 4" by making it a must for him to appear dead. Margo or another character will be on to this and will suffer the wrath of all Lily and others who had to be kept in the dark ;-) Why not use the same logic with Cheri a she too could have been given some Rome and Juliet-like pulse slowing medication and they are back.
