AfterElton Briefs: Bob Mould's book, George Takei's vows, Howard Stern's antics and more!

Boyfriends T.R. Knight and Mark Cornelsen hug actress Mia Barron at the opening performance of House of Blue Leaves in Los Angeles

Following this assortment of carefully-selected news items, interested readers can find a refreshing pic of a hot man in underwear after the jump. Yes, we're serious.

  • Out rocker Bob Mould (Husker Du, Sugar) is writing an autobiography. Considering he lived through the 80s pioneering an otherwise hetero American music movement while a closeted gay man and drug user and came through the other side a blogger who shares casserole recipes on his website, it will no doubt be a fascinating read.
  • RealityBlurred.com has an exclusive interview with Survivor: Gabon's Charlie Herschel who apparently wants to be a large, powerful, black woman. That sounds nice, but I'd just take the million dollars and call it a day.
  • Howard Stern strikes again during a CNN broadcast about the U.S.'s latest financial catastrophe.  No doubt John McCain and Sarah Palin will cite this as a reason to ban gay marriage.

  • Apparently a lot of American LGBT groups aren't getting the joke when it comes to Little Britain USA: They're calling a boycott due to the show's "homophobic" humor. Or is it all a joke itself?
  • Gospel singer Ray Boltz has come out of the closet. Hallelujah!

And today's Briefs are brought to you by...

This guy!

As for Little Britain...

It sounds like to me that some nasty little fundy groups can't think of anything to say in their own defence, so they are making up stuff and signing it  with bogus gay sounding organizations. How stupid do you have to be to not get that the joke is on the hater not the "hated"?

I love Matt and David. They are brilliance personified.

Yeah, but, no, but yeah, but...

"And the 'West Hollywood Gay and Lesbian Alliance' simply does not exist at all.”

Actually, it turns out that the recently formed West Hollywood Gay and Lesbian Alliance (AKA, the WHGLA) does exist.  (Perhaps it is being confused with the Gay and Lesbian West Hollywood Alliance (The GLWHA) or the Gay and Lesbian Alliance of West Hollywood (the GLAWH)).  We were contacted by the group's spokesperson (and sole member) Daffyd Thomas, a Welsh transplant newly arrived in America, who had much to say about his outrage over a certain transplanted British show now on HBO.

"It's not enough the constant homophobia I was forced to endure back in Llandewi Breffi," said Mr. Thomas, dressed in a replendent tight pleather and rubber outfit made to resemble the statue of liberty.  "But now I sail across the sea and am still faced with the daily horror of once again being a persecuted minority of one, the only gay in West Hollywood.

"My main complaint with the show Little Britain USA is its total lack of representation of gay characters and situations. I haven't seen a program this awash in straight, shall-we-say, "machismo" since I accidentally viewed an entire season of the equally homophobic Ugly Betty with six pints of ice cream and the men's Olympic ice skating team. I have never felt so alone."

Mr. Thomas expressed horror at a scene in Little Britain USA where the "notably manhungry" celebrity Rosie O'Donnel is beset by offensive lesbian and "fatty" quips, spewed out by noted Fat Fighters representative Marjorie Dawes.  "I just don't understand it," said Thomas.  "Ms. Dawes is usually so pleasant, the very soul of tact."

When reached for comment about this article, Marjorie Dawes shouted "f**k off you fat tw*ts," before slamming down the phone.

Ray Boltz

Ray Boltz isn't the first Contemporary Christian singer to come out as gay. A few years ago I came across a website devoted entirely to openly gay and lesbian singers in Christian music. I'm afraid I can't recall the name of the site, so I can't link to it.

I did, however come across this old video by Ray. The song's called "Heaven Is Counting On You". I'd never heard it before, or seen the video before today. I was just doing a search on YouTube, and when I ran down the titles, picked this one randomly...so I was a bit surprised by what I saw. It may just be my imagination, but there's just a hint of homoeroticism in it:

I am amused that, out of about a dozen titles, the ONE video I clicked on happened to have a hunky guy in it. :)

Ray Boltz

Hey, good for Ray. If anyone is interested, here is an in-depth article about his coming out:

http://www.washingtonblade.com/2008/9-12/arts/feature/13258.cfm

Not surprisingly, a lot of the comments that follow the article are rather idiotic in nature.

If anyone reading this post should happen to be struggling with how to reconcile being both gay and a Christian, the following web site is a great starting point. Hey, just goes to show that there is more than one opinion about this; don't blindly believe everything you hear from the rabid conservatives:
