What's this?  First Gay Pride Day, now Oakdale University is having a gay film festival that Noah has become involved with.  With Project GreenUp doing so well and raking in the foundation dollars to clean up Snyder Farm, Luke wants to do his share.  He decides to promote PGU at the film festival.  When Brian Wheatley hears about the plan, he is decidedly against the idea and doesn't want Luke to do it.   Luke and Brian argue, bringing an end to the peaceful accord between them.  But Luke is determined to do things his way and plans to go through with his idea anyway no matter what Brian thinks.  However, does Luke have Noah's support in this decision?  It doesn't look like it because Luke and Noah find themselves in the middle of their own conflict.....

The problematic idea

The idea is the next one: Luke, tired of being virgin and seeing no haste in Noah to change things for the better, decides to put the lost of his virginity on auction, in that way he benefices his foundation and himself in the same move. Brian disagrees cause he thinks no one will believe he is still virgin therefore there wouldn’t be big bidders, and Noah is angry cause if Luke tries sex then later he will ask for his big share of the pie, in a daily basis, several times in a row,  to compensate lost time. So Noah will have to move with Maddie to make sex again. The only one type he had. Sex with Maddie. Straight sex. Not gay. Straight.

Gay Film Festival? Must have been why neither Luke or Noah

showed their mugs on Friday's show. This benefit is being handled by Lucinda and Greg Nelson, and the writers could not even have Luke show up? It's only his grandmother's farm. I assume that they would have to pay Noah per episode, but this is so lame. Even in the obvious opportunities to show Luke the show drops the ball. The Elwood character(winner of InTurn 2) probably got more airtime then Luke or Noah.

Yeah, I Agree In A Way.....

But IMO, it's really not about Luke and Noah and whether the show wants to show them or not show them or whatever.  A lot of people who should have been at the benefit never showed, nor did the show bother to explain why they weren't there because there really would be no good excuse why they wouldn't.  At least they explained why Emma wasn't there even though it was completely lame.   It's HER farm.  She should have been there.  Iva's marital woes could've waited one night for Emma to take care of.  That abscense is much more glaring than Luke and Noah's.  And actually, Luke should've hosted instead of Holden and Lily since the project is under his foundation.  Henry, Vienna and Bonnie who work at the club should have been there.  Brad and Katie were supposedly to cover the event for WOAK and they never showed.  Meanwhile, Emily was there and since when did she care about Snyder Farm?  And Margo only went to harass Meg?   Huh?  And why would Dusty show up at the event and not at Fairwinds (where Meg lives) or the police station (since he was there to turn himself over to the cops).  The event was simply a plot device to get all the affected parties in one place so Dusty could make his dramatic return (which by the way the show somehow managed to make boring and anti-climatic).   And this show is all about plot and not what makes sense.  Unfortuantely, the days of gathering half the cast together for social events are over.  Even if they should be there.

Emily cares

Emily cares about the farm because 20 years ago she was married to Holden.  She didn't seem to care much about the farm, Holden or the Snyders then, and she has hardly had any interaction with them in the intervening decades, but you know when you have to make your plot points, you grasp at straws.

YouTube has some of the important episodes from 1986 to 1989 and they are SO much better than what is currently on.  I think I'm only going to watch old ATWT from now on.

The Intruder also gives her a reason to be there

I suppose Emily could've been covering the fundraiser for her tabloid, though that's a stretch, too.

Of course, ATWT's paltry use of The Intruder is another example of what's wrong with the show. Given that Luke wants to become a writer, why TPTB haven't had Emily offer him a job is a mystery to me. It would allow him to become more involved with the other stories on the show, as well as provide some conflict with his family.

You Have A Point, But....

Em didn't show up to cover the 'Ethan In A Hole' drama (in fact, Brad and Katie, who are family and work at WOAK, barely put in an apperance), so her covering the fundraiser for the paper is a stretch, I agree, especially Em owns the paper and is not a beat reporter.

You make a good point about Em offering Luke a job at the Intruder, however, Luke's grandmother, Lucinda owns (or part owns) The City Times, so it would make more sense for Luke to go work for her.

You are totally on the money on gatherings

and pretty much everything. I know that the days of real gatherings are over and noticed all these people who should have been there. Nothing as offensive as Jack and Katie's "lawn" wedding in which there were only extras, but like you I think that Luke should have hosted the darn thing, esp. given the show's intent on breaking "stories" into the antithesis of umbrellas. As such, if one were to use their lame logic, any appearance of Lucinda and Brian should come with Luke dragged in.

The absence of Henry and Vienna was pathetic as they were the ones who apparently were in charge of everything (at least Henry) and there was no reason for Carly to be there except to do what you know better than most as was the case with Dusty. For a guy who wants to keep a low profile, he might as well have chosen to hit Sarah Palin over the head and taken her place on the debate last Thursday.

Do you know if contract players these days ALSO get paid by number of appearances as is the case with non-contract players? I ask only because it seems that it should be a no-brainer to fill out more of these events with characters who should be there. Assuming that they get paid no matter what, the only additional expenses for the show would be to slap some make-up, hair, and some rags on missing contract players. I can't assume that Luke's attire is going to break the bank.

But at the end of the day it is all about "plot" (using that term loosely) over any characterization. I wish that these show-runners would watch some plot-driven shows with serialized elements so that they could at least succeed on the basis. While I think that it's a hug mistake to go that route, they could at least break down their junk to at least match the worst McGyver episode ever. I believe

In the current financial bind that soaps find themselves in (due largely to overpaying the "stars" in the heyday, and making sure that the producers make more money than most of the cast members combined), one of the ways they have saved money is by negotiating a certain number of appearances or days per week for each actor ("we'll pay you less, but you only have to be there two days a week").  This is why the characters rarely cross-over, or even see each other in places you would expect them to--like the hospital corridors or Emma's Jubilee Jumbles Funhouse.

An Oxdale Gay Film Festival?

Let's see -- Lie Down With Dogs, Cruising and The Fox. Right?
Anthony D. Langford's picture

Ehhh.....

.... I'm still trying to wrap my head around there is a gay film festival in Oakdale and that a certain Noah Mayer would have anything to do with it.
springintoaction's picture

Maybe he'll steal all the "films" to answer to his .....

masters at the AFA. What we don't know is that the writers programmed Noah (like something out of Passions or something) to stop any homosexual continuity to take place on the show.

This is a show that had poor Luke having some of his best scenes ever being frustrated about there not being any gay people in Oakdale. I guess that the news of Nuke spread like wildfire and all the gays applied to Oakdale University.

PG Version of Dante's Cove

The re-introduction of Brian has me wondering if the writers might not be borrowing from the Toby/Adam storyline on Dante's Cove.  If you aren't a fan (you don't know what you're missing...) Adam was Toby's best friend through high school and his first love, but Adam was decidedly "straight" and actively hetrosexual until season two when he suddenly, inexpicably enjoyed an epiphany from which he emerged as a gay character and love interest for Toby so eventually replaced Kevin as Toby's partner.  If that's where NUKE is going, sorry ATWT, you'll never be able to pull it off!

Ha! When I saw...

....the title for your post, all I could think was that a PG version of Dante's Cove couldn't even get through the opening credits!! About all it would be is a 57 second sequence of establishing shots of palm trees, beaches and buildings from a distance! Heh, heh.

I doubt any of the writer's of ATWT have ever watched Dante's Cove. They might spontaneously burst into flames.

I Think You Mean Kevin.....

I think you mean Kevin.  Brian (Wheatley) is the guy Luke hired to run his foundation.  Kevin (Davis) is the straight guy Luke had a thing for.  But, I don't think that Kevin is coming on as a romantic interest for Luke.  If I were to guess, since Luke is going to be running for student goverment at Oakdale U, he'll probably be running against Kevin.

Of course, there's always the possibility that Kevin is doing this to hide his secret passion for Luke!

Hmmm.... I've heard of Dante's Cove, but I've never seen it.  I'll have to check it out.

oneloneokie's picture

Yes... Kevin Davis... Thank you!

Oops... sorry for the mistake and thank you for catching it  I guess Kevin is still slated to re-appear on the show next week?  Anyway...  the concept of Kevin as a "converted" love interest is a lame one for many reasons and I would be permanently put off as a fan but ATWT hasn't performed well with regard to Luke and Noah so far this year.

Dante's Cove is an on-going mini series that appears on "Here! TV," which is an all gay network.  Of course, Here! TV is not available through Cox Cable in the Oklahoma City market so I've recently purchased the DVDs for all three past seasons from Amazon.Com.  Dante's Cove is currently filming season 4.  They all have been great and well worth the price!

Monday, Oct. 13th

Monday, October 13th, is the day Kevin will return.   Reg (of the hot tub Reg) will also return that day as well.

I do get Here TV, but  I admit, except for the Chad Allen movies, I rarely ever watch it.  Thanks for the tip.
