Grading the Majors: Gay characters across the networks

What are your thoughts on gay representation across the networks, or on cable? Our recent article "Grading the Majors" posits that ABC has the best overall score when it comes to gay characters on their shows -- is this surprising?

I was pretty surprised.

I was sure NBC was going to have the high score, but I was only thinking of "Will & Grace." I wasn't aware of a lot of ABC's gay-friendly programming history. (Of course, I don't watch ABC a lot.)

I'm looking forward to the cable channel grades. My money's on HBO.

is probably a good bet, but you never know!

Surprised at omission of "That Certain Summer" on ABC

This was a pretty groundbreaking film for 1972 and also aired on ABC. It was nominated for several Emmys, and won some other major awards.

Gradind the Networks on Gay Representation

Actually I was not surprised that ABC got high marks, it does seem to be a gay friendly Network. My bet is that CBS is at the bottom, since it is geared toward older people.

I am glad that ABC is close to the top, because I am a huge fan of the network. I hope they continue to include GLBTQ people and characters in the future.
