Canadian Tourism Minister punished for funding gay pride event?I found this article interesting, as well as the follow up that's been in the papers for the past few days. As much as we like to think Canadians are a progressive people, there are still social conservatives out there in this country! Of course it's all heresay at this point, but I wanted to know what other people think. Certainly doesn't look good for the Conservatives if it's true.

Homophobia in Canada
I emailed this article to Michael, btw.
As much as I dislike the Conservatives, I am hesitant to believe that homophobia is really at work here. The goverment has responded by saying the minister was supposed to give up her control of the program to Clement, and that the Pride funding had nothing to do with the decision. As much as I think their are still homophobic conservatives (and to be fair, in the other parties as well), I doubt they would be this transparent about it, especially since Pride is a huge tourism draw for Toronto. Seems like Trost is just trying to make an issue out of it because he has problems with the funding.
Interestingly, gay Conservative MP (yes, they do exist!) Nancy Ruth has voiced her support for Ablonczy, calling her courageous for going ahead with the funding even if some Conservatives might have their feathers ruffled.
