If you get 75,000 points you get a date with Matthew Rhys! How cool is that? Okay, seriously, the points are just a way for folks to be able to see who is most active on the site. I believe you get five points for responding to another post or comment and ten points for starting a forum topic. Oh, and fifty points for saying what an amazing editor I am. (YOu hear that, Brian?) Eventually, we'd like to link them up to categories ala TWOP's Channel Surfer, Couch Potato, etc. Maybe folks can suggest categories that reflect different levels of involvement. I think Flying Monkey should be the highest level.
Okay so I wrote my first comment - got 5 points. Thought of some additional useful information to put into it, so I edited it accordingly - those 5 points were lost. A bit odd to take away points for adding more info if what one is trying to do is note how active someone is. Not that i really care about my points -- since no info is given about them when one joins AE, I didn't even know what they were until I read this post -- just seems odd.
I forgot to explain that answer. For some reason the fifth star doesn't show up when you're just looking at the screen, but if you hover your cursor over where the fifth star should be, it suddenly appears. Why? Well, um, it's a, hmm...I got no good answers for that one.
