Disney Movie Features Gay Dads
So last night I was flipping through channels and something on Disney caught my eye. It was two men standing side by side in a field. A dog comes bounding toward them and they both embrace it. It seemed very family-like and not in a brotherly way.
I checked the listings and saw that it was a movie called Good Boy. I looked it up on IMDB and sure enough two of the actors are credited as Wilson's Dad and Wilson's Other Dad
I didn't watch the movie, so I have no idea how prominent the characters were (inconsequential enough to not be given real names, I suppose) but I thought I would post this anyway, because I was very much on the Disney-Is-Cowardly-And-Their-Excuses-Are-Homophobic side of the backlash surrounding Ryan in High School Musical. Good Boy was released in October 2003, more than two years before the January 2006 release of the original High School Musical
What are your thoughts on this? Is it old news and I just never caught wind of it? Does it alter your feelings at all about Disney?
(Relatedly, Nickelodeon released a movie last year called Angus, Thongs, and Perfect Snogging with a very predictable and minor yet pretty delightful gay twist. If you know any tween girls they would probably love the movie. I thought it was really cute.)
