Shameless -- Ian spoilers/questions for Season 7

I have been making my way through all of the seasons of Shameless, and am currently about halfway through Season 6. I really like the character of Ian and think it's great how he's so different from so many of the gay characters (particularly gay young people) we see in other shows.

However, I read some recaps/spoilers of Season 7 episodes, and it sounds like he enters an ongoing relationship with Maxxine -- and, yep, Maxxine's a girl. They already had Ian hook up with a girl a few seasons earlier, but it was a one-time thing, and if anything, it pretty much ended up confirming that he was gay. I just cringe at the thought of him "going there" again with a girl, especially on an ongoing basis. Maybe they're making him bisexual, which could be interesting, but I'm not sure I really see that coming out of nowhere.

Is anyone else caught up on Season 7? What are your thoughts on the way this is being handled? Does it seem like they turning Ian 100% straight? Bi? Gay but confused? Gay but "straight for you" when it comes to Maxxine (similar to on Hollyoaks where Craig claimed to be straight but "gay for you" when it came to John Paul)? Something else?

Much as I enjoy the character of Mickey, I think I'll enjoy the show a lot less if the only gay character is the silliest person on the show.
