ANTM: Some people have wars in their countriesThe theme for Wednesday night's reality shows was clearly insanity. There was Evangelin on Shear Genius (read about her hear), Davis on the Real World, and pretty much everybody on America's Next Top Model. The craziness starts early when Dionne points out that Brittany had no trouble memorizing her lines during the acting challenge two weeks ago, but then suddenly has short term memory loss for the commercial. Hmm. She has a point. That is a little fishy. In an interview, Dionne says she thinks she's lying and that she always has excuses for everything. Brittany had no trouble remembering her aria. Tyra Mail! "There's more to go see than kangaroos and koalas. --love Tyra." Nobody has any trouble figuring out it's go-see week. Go-sees are when the girls go out to meet with designers to get hired for shows. The meet with Priscilla Leighton Clark of Priscilla's Modeling Management, which I gather is an major agency Down Under, and Jodhi Meares, a former top model and the new host of Australia's Next Top Model.
The go-sees are always entertaining, but more so this year than usual. First, there's Brittany. She seems to have an inordinate amount of trouble finding the various locations. Then, when she does find them, she's extremely boring. She's like a lump during the interviews. And her walk! She looks like a broken robot. She's really awful. So far, she's blown personality and walk. She still has a great portfolio, but that will only take her so far. I think Dionne takes the cake, though. She starts asking the designers if she can keep the clothes she's wearing! I'm serious! That's so common, y'all. I couldn't believe it. And the worst/best part? Several of them actually give her the merchandise! It's like they're so shocked they don't know what to say. Finally, one designer has the sense to say, "You can buy it." She makes off like a bandit, though, scoring a bathing suit, an ugly shirt, and I think there was something else in there too.
Renee would have been fine, except she tried to win sympathy points by slipping pictures of her kid into her portfolio. Can you say unprofessional? Plus, several of the designers think she photographs too hard. Natasha and Jaslene seem to do pretty well. As time is running out, Brittany decided to go on one more go-see. She tells her cab driver where she's going, but doesn't ask him to meet her. So he doesn't. When she comes out, it takes her several minutes to find him. She's going to be cutting it close. The other girls have already started back. Renee and Dionne arrive first, and Jaslene slides in with a minute to spare. Natasha unfortunately misses the deadline by one minute and is disqualified. She takes it pretty well. Not so, Brittany. When she arrives about five minutes later, Natasha greets her with the bad news and Brittany flips out. She's screaming, crying, cursing, throwing her portfolio, and blaming everyone but herself. It's quite the display, and those inside, including Priscilla, can hear every word. That's gonna come back to haunt her, you can bet. Talk about a bad attitude. In the middle of Brittany's tantrum, the most awesome thing happens. Natasha calmly turns to her and says, "I just want to say to you that some people have war in their countries." It's brilliant. Especially when Brittany leaps up and screams at her to just shut up. Back inside, we learn that Jaslene won the challenge. Her prize is an extra photo shoot on top of the Sydney Harbor Bridge. She gets to choose one friend with whom to share it. She picks Dionne. The photographer is Nigel, and, while their outfits are a little weird, the shoot turns out well. Don't jump!
Tyra Mail! "Men are from Mars. Women are from Venus. Can you rock each planet? Half of your picture perfect future is in my hands. --love Tyra." First off, a bit wordy, don't you think? And furthermore, what the heck does it mean? Obviously, Tyra is going to be the photographer, but I can't decipher the rest of it. Neither can the girls, who spend quite a long time trying. Early the next morning, Mr. Jay meets the girls and explains that the shoot will actually be two different shoots: one in the style of a men's magazine and one in the style of a women's magazine. As suspected, Tyra will be shooting the female shots. And they get to pose with sexy male models. Yay! Eye candy! Oh, and Tyra is wearing a damn head scarf again.
The girls all get hair extensions, but much to Brittany's relief, they're not sewn in this time. She goes first and she does well, but then, photo shoots are her strong suit. Dionne struggle a bit. Tyra has to give her a lot of direction. Her model is HOT, though. Make that HOTT! Jaslene's model not so much, and she has no chemistry with him. He's kind of useless, really. She manages to pull it off anyway. Renee does really well with her body language, and Natasha does quite well too.
For the sexier male magazine shoot, they get more makeup and the photographer will be Michael Omm. Jaslene rocks the sexy shoot. In fact, all the girls except Dionne do very well. Dionne has trouble with her expressions. She just looks mean instead of sexy. Judging Panel! They show a mock cover of ANTM magazine with what I swear is a photoshopped picture of Tyra's big ol' head on some skinny model's body. What do you think? While Tyra is not wearing a head scarf for panel, she does look remarkably like a drag queen. I mean, even more so than usual. Priscilla is the guest judge. Brittany is up first for judging. Tyra points out that her go-sees didn't go well and Brittany immediately pulls out the excuses. Priscilla calls her on her tantrum, so out comes the tears. Hey, they've worked in the past. Except, the judges are running out of sympathy. Even Tyra. And you know it's bad when Typrah is sick of your tears. Tyra points out that not a single designer wanted to book Brittany. That's a ANTM first. Her pictures are still quite good, but will it be enough to save her?
Natasha goes next, and her photos are really good. The sexy shot and the feminine shot are equally strong.
Jaslene also did really well in her shots. There's hair over her face in the sexy shot, but the judges still love the intensity in her eyes. Her female shot is just gorgeous. I'm reminded again that Tyra really is a good photographer.
Dionne's pictures are not her best. She struggled in both shoots and it shows. She's still having trouble with her expressions, and when the judges ask for three poses, all three are mean. Tyra points out how much direction she needs.
Renee's pictures are strong as well. Her sexy pic is very Maxim, but I have to admit her female magazine shot is quite artistic and graceful.
Deliberations! Natasha was absolutely wonderful. Priscilla thinks she has the whole package. Tyra makes fun of her accent again. She's so culturally sensitive, Tyra is. Brittany is very photogenic, but she has a bad energy in person. The designers just didn't like her personality or her walk. Miss J thinks the other girls need to watch out for Jaslene. She's versatile and likable. Dionne was weak and seems to be going in the wrong direction. Renee could make the most money out of all the girls left, but she may too commercial. Elimination! Tyra calls Jaslene first, then Natasha and Renee. I suspect those are our final three, right there, with Jaslene and Natasha being final two. Just a guess. That leaves Brittany and Dionne in the bottom two. Brittany takes beautiful photos, but she can't get hired. Girls who can't get hired might as well not exist. Dionne's pictures are nowhere near as good as Brittany's, and she needs a lot of coaching, but the designers liked her. Really? Even though she took their clothes? Anyway, who's going home? The girl who can't get hired or the girl who needs too much coaching? Brittany is going home. Dionne's going next week, though. That's my prediction anyway. Natasha won CoverGirl of the week... again. Next week! We narrow it down to the final 3! Then the week after that is the big finale! Who do you think will win? I agree, I've been saying
I agree, I've been saying for a while now that I think Jaslene and Natasha are going to be final 2. I think Dionne's time is about up too, which is a shame since she's usually cool. I am enjoyed Renee more and more though, she did well this week, but I still don't want her to win.
Is that really what Natasha said that got Brittany even more upset? I couldn't hear it on tv, but that's pretty awesome that she said that.
I don't know whether I want Jaslene or Natasha to win. Jaslene has been my favourite since day one, but Natasha has improved so much and I think she deserves it too.
I'm so glad Brittany is gone. She was so boring. I didn't think her pictures this week were very good either, in the sexy one she looks scary and in the other one the guy is totally stealing the spotlight.
I think this weeks photo shoot was my favourite of the whole cycle... finally something good for their portfolios!
Oh and thanks for posting that screencap of the bridge pic, I wanted to see that. When I saw the outfits and the clouds I was like "wtf?" but the pictures turned out gorgeous. :)
Great work Josh. :)
Natasha = Brilliant
