Season Finale

I look forward to Sundays b/c of B&S & will be counting the days until season 2 arrives.  However, something about the show really bugs me, & that something has gotten worse as the season has worn on.  That something is how the show takes short cuts, or "cheats" as Michael Jensen phrased it in the "Ep 22 'Favorite Sun'" thread.

The last episode of the season provides a couple of examples:

1.  Uncle Saul is out-of-the-blue gay.  All season long Saul has a thing for Holly.  Now we're supposed to believe that he's family (ours, not the Walkers)?

2.  Where did the "chemistry" b/t Kevin & Jason McCallister come from?  The last we saw of Jason, he looked like he'd rather undergo water torture than see Kevin again.  After a very brief time together planning the engagement party, Jason has a thing for Kevin - enough to make him "jump Kevin's bones" even though he's "traditional?"  Yeah, right.

Perhaps the writers should draw issues/problems/etc. over several episodes instead of wrapping things up in 1 episode.

Your thoughts?

I don't see the cheating

The show does skimp on plot points, sure, but any show skimps on plot points to try to get drama ahead. This show actually held back in pushing through gimmicks for the finale, especially compared to most of the other sewage on TV today (Grey's, Desperate Housewives, etc.) The "cheating" decried in last week's episode seemed to revolve around Kevin getting rid of the blackmailer. The blackmailer said that they couldn't just brush the issue away, which seemed to me to be a pretty big hint the issue will come up again.

To address your points:

1) Saul started dating Holly to get information from her. Then they casually saw each other for a while longer before they split up. He didn't seem too upset to say goodbye. Nor was there any chemistry between them. Saul clearly hasn't accepted that he's gay, so he probably did try to start something, feel something, with Holly, but even back when they were together, viewers noticed the lack of passion. There have also been those scenes between Kevin and Saul, like early this season when Saul told Kevin not to let his life be about Nora the way Saul's was, that were such red flags.

2) Jason and Kevin were getting along fine until Kevin made some negative comments about Jason's brother. They had a chemistry back then. When they met up again, under friendlier circumstances, the chemistry came back (probably helped by alcohol). Jason certainly did seem to realize Kevin had flaws, but those aren't horrible, unforgiveable flaws, and since his brother loves a very annoying, selfish woman (Kitty), it probably runs in the family. Jason seemed bemused by Kevin more than anything else, which I liked, because who wants a season full of someone running off in moral outrage like Scotty did every episode? It's not like Jason was asking for his hand in marriage. They made out for a few minutes and then they hinted at maybe seeing each other again. Since Eric Winter has a new CBS show, I doubt we'll see him anymore, and Kevin will probably be celibate as more and more of the show is devoted to Rob Lowe and annoying Rebecca.

Guess I was wrong!

About Saul at least. Apparently they did change the story to make him gay. So ignore my blathering.

Since the minute we saw

Since the minute we saw Jason and Kevin for the first time I thought they had great chemistry. And I love what happened in the season finale. First they were fighting and trying to say bad things about each others familys, and then KISS. They had chemistry! Lots.

Agree with you Jon about the Senator and Rebecca taking over the show, they totally do. I've said that about Rob ever since his first episode. I dont understand it. It's suppose to be more about the family members. I dont like Rebecca either, but she became a little less annoying in the season finale when we found out what really happened to her and what she's been through.

I don't think Kevin will be celibate for long, the show would never do that to that chartacter. As much as I liked Scotty, I liked Jason even better. I really hope he'll be back sometime next season.

Jason next season

I asked Ausiello (TV Guide) what's going to happen to Jason now that Eric Winter is on a new show.

Question: Now that Eric Winter's CBS pilot, Viva Laughlin, has been picked up, what does this mean for his role as Kevin's love interest, Jason, on Brothers & Sisters?— Sam
Ausiello: Based on what I'm hearing about Viva, I have a hunch Eric will be back on B&S by November sweeps.

This sounds bad for Viva Laughlin, but good for us. I just hope they sign Eric to a contract for season two to keep this from happening again. Jason is already my favorite of Kevin's love interests and I think he has a lot of potential to be a longterm character on the show.
