British Soap Opera - Mile High (Not on BBC-America)I'm not sure if I first heard the show mentioned here or on another site. It may have been on Wiki when I was doing a little background research on Hollyoaks and BBC-America. I read a few synopsis of Mile High online and thought it might be a good show to check out. I was luck and found the first two seasons on DVD on Blockbuster Online and put them in my queue. I received the first disc last night and thought it may be a good way to pass an hour or so. I ended up watching all four episodes last night! The show is hilarious and (having flight attendent friends) I thought it was very interesting to watch. I will say, the main gay charachter, Will O'Brien, is not exactly a shining example. He consistently uses drugs and has more-or-less indescriminate sex (though suggested only, not actually shown, yet). He is hilarious to watch though! From what I've heard from my friends, and what the show has portrayed (at this point at least, I have only seen four episodes) it's relatively close to reality. Anyone else out there see this show and know any more about it? Submitted by Samuel Gillespie (1040 points) (196 posts) on Tue, 2007-06-19 13:01. |

Mile High ran on BBC America last year
Thanks, Brian
Thanks for the info. I didn't get BBC-A until later in the year last year, and I didn't pay any attention to it until I read about Hollyoaks here. Something I had read did say that it had been on BBC-A but I wasn't sure.
And, yes, in the first episode one of the girls sleeps with a stripper who has a rather magnetic member. I look forward to watching the rest of it!
MILE HIGH
Awesome - I love it. And William is just a fine example of how little boundaries British TV knows in portraying gay characters when compared to US TV. They are a lot of them, but they are not all shining examples- just as in real life. Although, one should not read too much into it, it's all just a bit of fun. I love the MILE HIGH theme and the show is always fun to watch, a shame it didn't last that long!

I was so hooked on this one...
The tone changes quite a bit over time, with the second season feeling like two very different seasons including a cast-revamp.
One thing I found interesting was that Will wasn't an admirable character, but his morals matched most of his co-workers (save for the noble Marco), who were liars, cheats and heavy drug users. Part of the fun of the series for me was watching Will's schemes fail so spectacularly, especially after the merger. Even better, Will ends up riding off into the sunset with his biggest enemy, even as the series takes some really dark turns.
Now if only I could find myself a copy of the theme song, as heard on the show.
Season Two
I have just started to receive in the mail Season Two for Mile High and they have it noted as Season Two Volume 1 and Season Two Volume 2, so that may be why it seemed so different.
I can't wait to continue watching it and finding out what happens in the future. Right now, I'm right at the end of Season One and KC has just run off into the sunset with not a penny to her name (good riddance), Emma is out of a job, and Wil, Marco, Jayson, and Leahan are facing potential unemployment.
