New Levi's 501 Ad

Anybody else notice the new Levi's 501 ads with the hot kid pulling on his pants while the walls around him fall away and world outside erupts? I'd seen it several times with the cute chick in the phone booth giving him the eye and then walking away with him, both their butts fitting very nicely into their jeans. OK, so what's in it for us, you ask?

Well, last night I saw the same ad except that the hotty in the phone booth was a guy. It was exactly the same ad except that the object of his excitement attention had changed sexes. And I'm still not sure it wasn't the same pair of butts walking away in both ads. It's a hoot! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it on YouTube yet

It got me thinking about how much more comfortable the ad industry and their clients have gotten with "crossovers" since Ikea made the Fundies nuts a decade or so ago. One more place where things have gotten better.

Anybody else see it? Any comments? Would anybody else like to see Lyle or one of the flying monkeys do a piece on the evolution of mainstream marketing reaching out to our community?

Where did you see the guy/guy version of the ad? I'm just curious how that version of the ad were targeted differently...

I was counting on the AfterElton crew to be way ahead of me.

I was so busy whooping and chortling that I paid no attention to what my partner was actually watching... the only reason I looked up was that I recognized the intro sound and looked up from my computer because (this may be more than I want the world to know) I really lust over like the energy in this really cute kid doing a reverse striptease as he pulls his jeans up, drops them, pulls them up, drops them, and then goes for broke.... as it were.

Greg is pretty sure that it was one of the CSI shows on reruns. It was, fer sure, in the 9-10 PM PDT slot. Where it wasn't, for the record, was on LOGO.

Thanks for asking. I'll be a better reporter next time.

We are on top of it... sort of. I saw it Saturday night at the HRC dinner in San Francisco and have been trying to track down a clip of it ever since. I called the Gap's media folks and everything. I'll sic Michael on them, I guess!

The only channel I've seen this add on was Logo. It was on last night during Rick & Steve. I've also seent his add 4 other times on Logo this week. I also saw the straight version yesterday for the first time. The gay version much better.

This is gonna get me a visit by the lower levels of flying monkey fleas, but I'm pretty sure I didn't see it on LOGO... cause Ouch! we don't OUCH! watch OUCH! LOGO that much. Boy, Michael, that was OUCH! freakin' OUCH! fast!

Problem is [NOW CUT THAT OUT!] we just can't trust the schedules they post on our Comcast cable listings. OK! That's E N O U G H!

I haven't seen the ad, but just from your description, i can't wait to see it. I'm definitely doing a youtube search when I get home from work. :)

But I've only seen the gay version on Logo as well. The last shots in the two versions are also definitely different, with the guy walking away with the girl in one and the guy in the other. Haven't been able to find anywhere online...

Hey Justin,

Way to go. I love it that the first one is Italian, the second is Scandinavian(???), and the last one is "amateur" but made by a man obviously blessed with very Very VERY great talent skill gifts! While it seemed about twice as long as it should have been, the first half had me fanning my... uh... keyboard to keep from having a meltdown.

I've heard from a Levi's PR person who said they might be expanding their market buys, but nothing more. Keep your eye out! It's worth looking for, especially if you see both ads.

Thanks Dave for sharing that link. I love that commercial. The blonde guy in the phone booth is kinda cute too. :)
