Save Hollyoaks

Somebody just posted a number on the BBC America discussion boards to call and file a complaint about what they're doing with Hollyoaks.  The number is  1-859-342-4070.  You can also send a written letter to :

                          BBC America
                          P.O. Box 6266, Florence, KY 41022-6266

Like the person who posted the adress said it will get their attention because it takes more of our time to mail an actual letter.  And keep writing emails to show them that we want Hollyoaks to stay on the air.

Save Hollyoaks

Here we go again with BBCAmerica...it's really just two steps forward one step back with them 24/7 isn't it...the most current BBCA sked DOES still have Hollyoaks airing until 8 Sept. 07 BUT it seems that the episodes are starting over with the first BBCA eps. aired (the fire at The Dog episodes pretty much) WHY when I get THIS into a show can't I just relax and enjoy it without constantly having networks play with me (and it!) LOL! Seriously if they stop things this close to the Craig/John-Paul stuff I'll be livid...I guess keep e-mailing and calling BBCA and other outlets as we have been...

Give the Oaks a chance

I can't believe what the Beeb is doing to the Oaks. I'm a Brit and an avid viewer of the show, for a soap it's surprisingly addictive and I wish it could just have a decent timeslot to gain an audience. The John-Paul and Craig storyline for one is fantastic and handled with great class and it's still no where near being resolved over here and we are months and months into it. If you guys are still seeing events surrounding the Dog explosion you've got alot of catching up to do and the stories keep getting better and better. BBCA are really screwing things up, I mean jesus christ they gave you Hotel Babylon, Hotel f***in Babylon! They must be mad.

Bye the bye, if anyone wants spoilers of future eps of Oaks just ask.

Do BBCAmerica not think?!

BBCAmerica are a total let down. Playing around with the viewers this way. I am totally addicted to HollyOaks, love it to death even though I have to TIVO it at 3:00am in the morning. Why the powers that be over at BBCAmerica decided to pull this show after ONLY six weeks from its 10:00pm time slot to the twlight hours is of concern. And i'm really starting to believe some of the speculation that the JP/Craig storyline really may have something to do with wanting to hide this show out of sight, hence the pathetic hours. Hell,  just look at how long it has taken for a dayime show, which just happens to be a SOAP (ATWT) in the USA to get a simple gay kiss... the year 2007. So is it any wonder that others, myself included have our doubts about why HollyOaks is suddenly pulled and put on in the middle of the night...right at the onset of the JP/Craig story.

And to think they have Bullsh*t like Hotel Babylon on primetime, a show even the British have no use for.

i don't wanna be the devil's advocate here...

...but anyone ever think about the idea that it just BOMBED? i mean, BBC america certainly has a perfect 'gay-positive' record and doesn't shy away from controversy. don't get me wrong, i love Hollyoaks as much as the next person, but maybe america just isn't ready ;-)

I don't think that's a good excuse

They kept Eastenders on for several years even though the ratings were not great. This was only ONE half-hour5 nights a week in a bad timeslot, and they can't even keep that? When their schedule consists of endless repeats of Cash in the Attic, Everything Must Go, and Changing Rooms?

This decision is just absurd and makes me wonder if they are too cheap to buy new episodes, if they are scared of the JP/Craig story, or what. Whatever is going on, I'm disappointed. BBC America is the most consistently lazy channel out there.

Valid Point..

Wolfi, very valid point. And i'd be fooling myself if I didn't think that ratings had anything to do with the move, because lets be honest, if HollyOaks was getting good ratings they would most likely still be on in that 10:00pm time slot. But here's my grumblings with BBCAmerica:

Daily soaps have never worked for them. They tried it with EastEnders, one of the most successful SOAPS in the history of the UK, and looked what happened to that. Even if they brought Corrie over I think it would flop. Daily SOAPS just do not work on BBCAmerica, so why put HollyOaks on five times a week? Why not have it as a one day a week, two hour series? Why didn't they do like they have with many of their other shows or series like Footballer's wives, Hex or mystery shows which normally air once a week. Also, at first, HollyOaks was going to be changed to 4:30pm in the afternoon, but then without warning or announcement to it's viewers this idea was withdrawn and HollyOaks was buried to the graveyard hour of 3:00am in the morning, which got some of us speculating about the up and coming gay content. As progressive as BBCAmerica are, they still have advertisers, and showing the JP/Craig storyline, which isn't limited to just hand holding or a few pecks, may have thought to be a little too riskque for these daytime hours. Hell, look at the attention, and sadly from what i'm now reading on the CBS forum and ATWT forum,  all the fuss the Luke/Noah storyline is creating, a storyline i'm sure will not come close to the depth that is the JP/Craig love story since many in America still feel uncomfortable watching men being intimate. Although watching men get killed, beaten or blown to pieces is quite acceptable and even applaued in the US, especially if it's the bad guy. So it's no wonder some of us are speculating. And I blame BBCAmerica for the negativity this has created from it's fans since no explanation is ever given as to why they suddenly drop a show, change its hours or even promise to air a new show only for that show to never materialize. It's just terrible behavior on their part.

But I do agree with you that ratings played a big part in the time change. I just wished they had given HollyOaks more time and respect and played with the hours a little to see what may have worked, because five times a week series never have for them. Also, BBCAmerica must keep in mind they are small niche cable station which most people don't even know exists, so i'm sure viewership is miniscule compaired to other cable and local stations .
