Republican or Democrat.... Looking for LoveI've had experience dating both Republican gays and Democrat Gay, and the one thing that sticks out in my mind is that the only difference is on two issues. Marriage: the Replubicans support Civil Unions while the Democrats want the right of full Marriage. The second difference is economic, the Republicans being more fiscally "conservative". I haven't met a single gay republican that supports Bush on any platform. So why do we fight each other so much. We should be fighting for the same thing "EQUAL RIGHTS". I don't give a crap what anybody calls it as long as I have the same rights as everyone else. Marriage is a religious term anyway, and since 75 percent of them fail why should we want to emulate them. Just give me equal rights and call it a "Civil Union" or a "Partnership", hell, I don't care if you call it "chicken nuggets" as long as I have equal rights!!!! Looking For Love in All the Wrong Places
Just as in the Craig case Pastor Love maintains he is not gay.
However unlike Craig this one went way beyond toe tapping as he was caught with his pants down, tool in hand and talking dirty to the undercover cop.
This is his story and he is sticking to it:
Pastor Love claims he has a medical condition that prevents him from urinating unless he plays with it and makes it erect. Thus while he was innocently preparing his penis for peeing the undercover cop walked in on him. The reason he was talking dirty to the cop was because he was afraid the cop was an over sexed gay man who might do him harm. He was talking dirty in order to disguise himself as another over sexed gay man in order to extricate himself from the situation.
The jury did not buy it and he was found guilty and resigned in disgrace. Now he has started his own church from which he continues to preach of the evils of homosexuality.
No matter what you might've
Not the only difference
This is why I have disdain for gay republicans and why i'm not one of those "why can't we all just get along" people. They're delusional. You think any of the great social movements would have been made if people sat back and went "people just don't understand yet" "someday" "let's just wait for the polls to tell us when when it's time, when people are comfortable"?No.People fought for their rights. They screamed, marched, vandalized, and even rioted sometimes to get the respect they deserved.
When I hear gay republicans criticize other gay people for the backlash against gay marriage, saying "we should've waited", That blows my mind.Even if they don't support the anti-gay part of the republican platform they still support people who actively work against us.When I hear gay republicans singing the praises of Ronald Reagan, knowing how anti-gay he was and how he ignored the AIDS crisis, it makes me sick because it feels like betrayel. That to me is even worse. If you defend that then you have drank the Koolaid. You are part of a cult.
A good example of this is Mary Cheney. She and her family got all up in arms because John Kerry and John Edwards just said she was a lesbian in the 2004 presidential debates. She called them slime balls and accused them of trying to use that as a political weapon while saying George W. Bush "just hasn't caight up on that issue yet".Are you f*cking kidding me?She said she voted for him because he was the best person to protect this country and that he hadn't made any mistakes in Iraq.......'nuff said.
I'm tired of hearing gay conservatives say "that's just one issue", trivializing our cause. For me, it's a deal breaker. If I knew a politician was racist, I wouldn't vote for them either.I don't vote for bigots.Period.That's the real difference between gay republicans and democrats. As far as the word marriage goes, I absolutely care what it's called. It's not so much about the word as the principal of not settling for second best because people tell you that you can only have that because you're gay.You and your relationship are lesser than thus you deserve less.
So yes, Jeremy, we should be fighting for equal rights together, but gay republicans seem to think the way to go about it is to vote for and support people who want to take out rights away.I'm not saying democrats don't piss me off because they need to get their sh*t together too, but the rupublicans are far worse. On top of the "gay issue" they can't govern anyway.
Respectability Trumping Self-Respect
sums up how I feel about gays who support predominantly anti-gay political parties. I am not a big fan of big government, but if I was an American I would be playing Ice Hockey in Hell before I would vote Republican! The party that in the eighties ignored the AIDS crisis (in my mind one of the great hate crimes of the 20th century), and in the 21st century actively talks about a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage (while far more pressing issues such as the Iraq war, global warming, and health care get less attention)? Why would any gay person admit to supporting them?
The only theory I have is that it is more important for them to be seen to be associated with respectable, rich and powerful people (no loose cannons in the flock like environmentalists, civil liberties agitators etc.), then it is to be a self-respecting gay person. Maybe I am wrong, and I would like to hear the view point of gays who consider themselves Republican. I guess where I am coming from is, if you do not like the Democrats then just stay silent and not support the Republicans until they radically change their policies.
Cheers

Fiscally conservative?
