Does anyone here watch the Legion show on Saturday mornings? Although they probably won't play up the gay aspects of member Element Lad, it's still a great animated show worth your time!-Cayo
and I've been mixed about the animated series. I think the show lacks a lot of what I enjoy about the Legion -- I don't like how everyone has such aggressive powers (like Saturn Girl having mind blasts) because the Legion I grew up with was about people finding creative uses for their limited powers. I also find myself missing the soap opera relationships of the Legion. The Legion has such great melodrama to mine ("The Super-Sacrifice of the Legionnaires" anyone) but the show doesn't seem to be going there.
Though for gay characters, the Legion has plenty of almost-gay characters. Element Lad pinged the gaydar of readers until one writer gave him a girlfriend (who later writers revealed to be transgender and EL declared that gender didn't matter), the original plans for Lightning Lass and Shrinking Violet was to have them in a relationship but editorial squashed that plan in the 80s. When the series rebooted Invisible Kid was planned as gay (partly because of a Secret Origins story with HoYay that couldn't be ignored) but the creative team took their time on that story and, after dropping several hints, a new editor took over the series and put a halt to attempts to officially out the character. (Another writer said he had to go over that same editor's head to get a gay supporting character in SUPERGIRL.)
Since he's the only superhero named Lyle and he was on my favorite comic team, I was quite grumpy about throwing Invisible Kid in the closet. I hear he appears this season and, while I'd love to see a gay Invisible Kid, I'm not hoping for much considering I haven't seen the Legion romances play out on this version.
I'm a Legion fan
