It's interesting what some people perceive as gayThis morning I went to the library to finish researching a paper. While I was there I ran into a girl in one of my classes...we started to talk about fall TV and what we're watching. She asked if I saw Moonlight on CBS last night and asked what I thought of the gay character. I told her I hadn't watched it yet but it's on my Tivo. So, as soon as I got back I turned it on and watched it. Watched the whole thing and I'm thinking "Where is the gay character?" I thought perhaps I knew who she was referring to but I called her just to make sure I was on the same page. So here it is...WARNING: STORYLINE SPOILER ALERT. There's a professor who is suspected of being a killer and this guy thinks he is a vampire. He has a group of students who he has convinced that he is a vampire and they kind of follow him like a cult. The professor has this cutie TA who does his bidding...turns out, he is the bad guy. There's this one line he says at the end when he has the main female character kidnapped. She says something like "Why are you doing this?" and the cutie TA goes something like "You wouldn't understand. Christian is a prophet. He reveals the vital truth about our energy. We must absorb this energy, not waste it on women. Without these distractions he is free to fulfill his destiny." He practically blew him, right? So I asked her...was that the part? She's like yes. He was obsessed with the professor and in love with him. you could tell by how he looked at him throughout the show. I'm like WHAT? That's not gay...that was the actions of a disciple. I told her that the writing was kind of homoerotic...all the revealing and absorbing but that guy probably wasn't gay. LOL So then she's like "Oh. Have you seen the T-Mobile commercial with the two guys in the airpot and the one guy is upset he's not in the other guy's top 5 even though he's right there? Are they gay?" As an interesting side note to Moonlight...I read that the show will have recurring lesbian character. The AfAm editor of the rag that the main female character writes for will be a lesbian. I forget where I read it but it wasn't anything official. Submitted by GayTVluver (2768 points) (572 posts) on Sat, 2007-09-29 11:29. |

That's interesting, but I
That's interesting, but I think it's just a case of that woman being completely clueless. For instance, one of my very good straight friends Robbie (who I'm living with in a house this year) really got into comics after meeting me, and I showed him the good stuff. I had him read the first Young Avengers book, and the second he saw the panel where the two gay characters, Teddy and Billy, meet each other for the first time (and mind you, nothing about their sexuality has been said) he turned to me and said "they're gonna get together, aren't they?" I asked how he knew, and he just said it was in the way they looked at each other.
Albeit, when I watched the show I couldn't help but snicker at the homo-eroticism of the whole "we must not let women cloud our thoughts" bit. I hope they add some more gay characters than just the editor. It seems almost like they're cramming every bit of diversity they can into one character. She's black, female, empowered (big boss of the internet news feed site), lesbian, beautiful and with plenty of sassitude to boot. The show looks great though, much better than Dresden Files which is the only other supernatural mystery show I know of that's on (not talking about certain Sci-Fi shows).
