Pic Post! Matthew Mitcham medals at World Championships

The FINA World Championships kicked off Friday in Rome and in the diving competition, Austrialia's out Gold medal winning diver Matthew Mitcham snagged a bronze medal in the men's 1m springboard. Lest you think that's a disappointment, it's not.

Mitcham only recently started competing in the 1m event, considered the power event in diving. Going into the final dive, Mitcham was actually in contention for the gold before finishing behind China's Qin Kai and Zhang Xinhua.

Mitcham will also be competing in the 3m and 10m and stands an excellent chance at medaling in both. If he wins three medals, Mitcham would be the first to do so. Said Matthew about his performance and goals:

The ultimate goal is to medal on both boards in London. I think the last one to do that was Alex Despatie and I think the last one to win both golds was Greg Louganis (1988). I hope after another two years I will be good enough to win medals in both. I think I'm already better than I was last year. I have added a new dive on 10m, the back three-and-a-half somersault with a pike.
