"The Kids Are All Right" Represent in the Nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards

The nominations for the 83rd Academy Awards were announced this morning, and I did something I rarely do: Watch the E! Channel. In between promos for awful reality shows, The Kids Are All Right became the torch bearer for gay visibility at this year's awards. Let's take a closer look at this year's noms!

Best Picture:
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The Kids Are All Right
The King's Speech
127 Hours
The Social Network
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Winter's Bone

First thoughts - A few weeks ago, The Social Network seemed like a lock for the win, but The King's Speech has the momentum now. The dark horse is probably Black Swan. As for The Kids Are All Right? Not a chance..

Best Director:
Darren Aronofsky, Black Swan
David O. Russell, The Fighter
Tom Hooper, The King's Speech
David Fincher, The Social Network
Joel Coen and Ethan Coen, True Grit

First thoughts - Finally, David Fincher is going to win an award. It's something he's deserved ever since he directed Jermaine Stewart in "We Don't Have Take Our Clothes Off."

Best Actor:
Javier Bardem, Biutiful
Jeff Bridges, True Grit
Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network
Colin Firth, The King's Speech
James Franco, 127 Hours

First thoughts - Colin Firth will win the award he should have won last year for A Single Man. But how cool would it be for James Franco to win?

Best Actress:
Annette Bening, The Kids Are All Right
Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole
Jennifer Lawrence, Winter's Bone
Natalie Portman, Black Swan
Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine

First thoughts - This is Natalie's year, but Annette is a strong second. Hilary Swank isn't nominated, so maybe Annette does have a chance.

Best Supporting Actor:
Christian Bale, The Fighter
John Hawkes, Winter's Bone
Jeremy Renner, The Town
Mark Ruffalo, The Kids Are All Right
Geoffrey Rush, The King's Speech

First thoughts - Christian seems to have the momentum, but the supporting categories are sometimes where you get the shock wins. I'm glad that Mark Ruffalo was nominated, but he doesn't have a shot.

Best Supporting Actress:
Amy Adams, The Fighter
Helena Bonham Carter, The King's Speech
Melissa Leo, The Fighter
Hailee Steinfeld, True Grit
Jacki Weaver, Animal Kingdom

First thoughts - This one looks to be wide open, but I'd love for Helena to win, if only to see her drag whatever dress monstrosity she's wearing up on the stage. But they'll probably give it to the kid. They love giving these things to kids.

Animated Film:
How To Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Toy Story 3

First Thoughts - Gee, I wonder?

I'm most bummed that "You Haven't Seen The Last Of Me" from Burlesque wasn't nominated, but at least The Kids Are All Right picked up an Original Screenplay nod, and has a good shot at winning.

What are your first thoughts on this year's noms? You can see a complete list here, and tune into ABC on Sunday, February 27th at 8PM EST for the show.
