Sweden's Anton Hysén Is Latest Pro Athlete To Come Out

Just a few weeks after British Cricketer Steven Davies came out, another European athlete has kicked his way out of the closet.

Swedish football player Anton Hysén, whose father famously played for Liverpool back in the 80's, has revealed that he's gay.

Fun with translations!

He talked to football magazine Offsides, and we think we get the gist of what he was saying, even though the interweb translation engine makes hims sound like a combination of Yoda, Gollum and the subliminal messages hidden in every Abba song:

"I might not play in the league, but I want to prove that there must be such a big deal. I am a footballer. And gay. If I perform as a footballer, then I do not think it matters if I like girls or boys. So what, like?"
"It's totally sick when you think about it. That is so f**ked up, everything. Where the hell is everyone else? It has been well-type does not come out of a single footballer?"
"In Hacken, only the ones I hung out with, those were my age, who knew. The same is true in view. I ask myself and not in the locker room and says: 'Old men, listen, I'm gay!'"
"I get that it will be different after this interview. Now everyone will know: all the coaches, all opponents, yes, even my teammates. That is how calm as anything, I just think it will be exciting. People may call me anything they want, it will just make me even more psyched."

We definitely understand that last one.

Congratulations to Anton, and hopefully this trend of pro athletes coming out before they retire will continue, and more frequently. And eventually in America. (h/t to 21things)
