Interview with Michael Urie

AE: Is there anything in particular you would like to say or talk about or anything you’d like to say to our readers?
MU:
Thanks for all the support and all the love. I get all these Google alerts and AfterElton’s very, very, very nice to me. And I appreciate that very much.

AE: Well, I love the show. I love your character. That bitchy gay assistant character can be problematic of, but between you and the writers, you have brought a real humanity to it. My complaint about that sort of character is that it’s often the only representation that you see and Ugly Betty has such a great diversity and Marc has such a great humanity that it works. I’m glad that you like what we have to say.
MU
: You know, they were originally going to give Wilhelmina a different assistant every week. So for me, lucky Vanessa still likes me.

I personally have always liked

the character of Marc, although he is a stereotype, he is not unrealistic, I have met gay men like him.  As the show developed last year you could see his character evolving more, the insecurity and humanity coming to the forefront which was nice to see.  I hope Marc is allowed to spend more time mentoring Justin in future episodes, because Justin needs it!

Cheers

This is a really

This is a really well-written show.  Marc is one of my favorite characters on TV, because he says the things people want to say, but he's not a cartoon.  Like Michael says in the article, Marc's persona is a facade, and we see real depth at the most unexpected times.  That's true for all of the characters on Ugly Betty, and it's rapidly become my must-see show of the week.

Very few actors can do pratfalls AND razor-sharp line readings

Urie can do both. Be sure to check him out in WTC View a teeny tiny little indie he made a couple of years back where he palys a very diffeent gay man from Marc who has an apartment near Ground Zero that he's trying to rent without much luck. Urie gives a very thoutful performance that while high energy is low key compared to what he does on Ugly Betty.

Michael is such a class act.

Michael is such a class act. I have to doubt about his acting versatility. I saw WTC view and his dramatic talent is really moving.

I got a chance to see

I got a chance to see Michael Urie live on stage at a theatre near my home when he was in Hamlet. He is as handsome 5-10 ft. away from where I was sitting as he is on the television. :)
