Interview with "Survivor"'s Todd Herzog
AE: What’s the most interesting thing that happened that didn’t get
shown?
AE: Towards the end, it seemed like you guys almost had a
brother/sister relationship, especially at the live show.
AE: There was a lot of whining about betrayal and backstabbing. Hello? This
is Survivor!
AE: Did you get tired of being called a slippery little sucker when all
you did was play the game? It was almost an honor to be known as the manipulator in the game, the puppet master. It's fun. I enjoy it. I don't mind it one little bit. To me it's a game, and that was part of my game. Those people who go out there to just have "an experience with friends," well, yeah. I made friends, it was great, it was an awesome experience, but I came to win a million dollars.
AE: And you did.
AE: You’re frequently identified as Todd Herzog, gay Mormon. Is it
important that folks know those two things about you?
AE: As such a fan of the game, you clearly knew what to expect most of
the time. What was your most surprising experience?
AE: That was my next question, actually. You and Amanda seemed close, but then she turned on you
towards the end. Did that bother you or is it all just part of the game? Are
you still friends?
AE: Have you stayed close to anyone after the show?
AE: Was Jean-Robert really as clueless as he was edited to be?
AE: Obviously things worked out to your
favor, but do you regret giving the hidden immunity idol to James and telling
him where to find the other one?
AE: I was really shocked when Eric and Courtney thought you'd made up
the story about your sister's miscarriage, especially the cruel way Courtney
mocked the situation. Just for the record, did you make it up? It was Eric who surprised me more, because he never mentioned anything about it. Even in his after interviews, when he'd been voted off, he was like, "I don't know if it's true or not." That takes a lot of nerve to still say that about somebody.
AE: Is there anything you would do differently if you had the chance to
do it again?
AE: Why bother if you won, right?
AE: If you're asked to compete in the next season's Fans vs. Favorites,
or a later All-Star edition, would you do it?
AE: Will you go back to being a flight attendant now or are you hoping
to break into show biz? What's next for you?
AE: Well, we were big fans and I was glad to see you win, so
congratulations again, thanks for talking to us, and good luck with figuring
out what to do from here. Submitted by on Mon, 2007-12-17 23:03. |

I'm so glad he won. I was
I'm so glad he won. I was rooting for him from the get-go and to watch how masterfully he played the game without coming off as an asshole in the process was a wonderful thing to see. I think it contributed to making this season of Survivor, perhaps, the best ever.
I'm also really glad that he's friends with Frosti because I thought he was pretty special as well and a really nice guy as well.
TODD YOU ARE SO AWESOME MAN!!
YOU PLAYED THAT GAME UP TO THE VERY END! YOU GOT JEAN ROBERT'S VOTE BY COMPLIMENTING HIM...BY TELLING HIM HE WAS A THREAT YOU PLAYED TO HIS EGO. YOU HAVE HAD ME IN A GOOD MOOD ALL DAY BUDDY!!!! HAVE FUN...INVEST YOUR MONEY WISELY!!! YOU'RE YOUNG!!! MY BEST TO YOU!!!!!!!!!!
The Sole Survivor
Todd is cute and smart. I couldn't be more happy for him. He accomplished his goal of competing on Survivor after he turned 21.
If you are going to be on a reality show I'd suggest following Todd. He knew the social dynamic he was in and played off it creating the perfect strategy for gay male contestants to win.
Great Interivew, Congrats Todd!
Josh that was a very revealing
interview. I was surprised that Todd had no problems with Leslie, good to hear considering the reputation of some Christian radio hosts. Not surprised that Jean-Robert was homophobic, the guy did not seem to have an overabundance of social skills, at least Todd made him see gay people in a different light. Also it sounds like Todd is still a practising Mormon, which I found even more interesting, it must have been a struggle for him at times. Overall, he came across as very bright and mature for his 22 years.
I certainly could never participate in a Survival type program, I hate consciously manipulating people, just as well that money does not motivate me! But if you are going to do it you may as well give it your best shot which Todd certainly did.
Cheers

Survive This...
It gets worse.......
Side-bar: Speaking of "honesty" which so many people/contestants, love to throw around as a badge of honor in life and on the show, as it often it turns out that one of the "good" final 4 was more or a manipulating liar in both the show and real life. I won't repeat myself here, but you can check my comment on the Survivor Finale blog as I had to update my comments to reflect reports by CBS, TMZ, Entertainment Weekly regarding the apparent lack of total honesty by one of the show's final 4 and I am not talking about Todd, Amanda, or Courtney.
Congratulations to Todd. One of the best players the show has ever seen.
Really great interview,
Really great interview, Josh. I like Todd. He seems to be a really smart guy. I wanna make him my friend. :D
