What an incredibly eccentric list! Some of the winners had me nodding in agreement, others, in wonder. Like the earlier poster, I had never even heard of most of these guys. One thing's for certain, however; nobody is going to argue with numbers 1 and 20!
Well, well, must say it's a nice list - LOVE the diversity. I do disagree with 2 posters above - I REALLY like a couple of the guys on page 10. And, there are 3 or 4 in the top 20 I wouldn't give 2 cents for. Wonderful how we all have such differing tastes. I never even heard of many of them - guess I'll have to do some research.
and I didn't think he would do that. He wasn't on a lot of lists that were posted and I was hoping he would make the top twenty. It's awesome that he's number 10. And this is without the women vote. I'm thinking if we girls had been allowed he would have been much higher up.
I am very surprised and happy with this list... Though honestly there is a great deal of guys on this list that I have no clue who they are... But I think that it shows how great of a range that gay men often choose from looks wise.. And that we aren't all as caught up in the same type of hype that the standard audience is..
I love that Ashton Kutcher, Enrique Murciano, Leonardo DiCaprio, John Cho, Rodrigo Santoro, and Omar Epps didn't make the list. That Tom Cruise didn't even get a single vote, and that George Clooney was almost down to the wire on making the list at all. (Though I still think George is hot anyways.) But to me it validates my thoughts about how differently the standard female audience and gay male audience see's guys..
I would personally love to hear more from guys who made it onto the list, about their reactions to being thought of as attractive by gay males lol..
And though none of my faves are in the top 20 (Not that I think those guys are unattractive just none of them would have been in my top 20 lol.) I am especially happy to see that more than a few of my faves are on the list, Ryan Gosling, David Boreanaz, Eric Mabius, Jeremy Piven, Alexandre Despatie, Ben Browder, and Seth Green. Its good to know that I am not totally the only gay man who has a jones for any of them lol...
Heath should have been higher then #20 though. I mean seriously, Gael Garcia Bernal ? He's one that just doesn't live up to his hype for me (and that picture certainly didn't help - yikes).
The *other* hottie from Battlestar Galactica (and I would argue the number one hottie from BSG, but that's debatable) should have edged out at least a third of this list. And he wouldn't hurt the diversity quotient either--he's a First Nations actor from Yukon, Canada.
All in all, though, it's still a great list. Thanks--it was fun reading!
Dude, I apologize if that seemed like I was criticizing you (which now I see it might). I was only clumsily trying to point out the woeful state to which foreign cinema has fallen in the U.S., and that therefore very few would be aware of this actor. Again, sorry about that.
Yes, I wish foreign cinema was more embraced in the US, as there are any number of hot guys in foreign films (aside from my beloved Monsieur Renier, there's also Germany's Daniel Bruhl, Italy's Raoul Bova and France's Gregori Derangere).
I also voted for Jeremie Renier. My other "losers" included another European (Andreas Wilson), an Aussie (Jesse Spenser), and an American (Billy Crudup). Maybe next year, Jeremie and the others will have a higher profile. Still, it's a pretty eclectic, and very interesting, list.
I am absolutely stunned that Van Hansis is nowhere on the list. Actually, I'm very surprised that few if any soap actors made it . To be honest, I'm not a soap fan so I wouldn't know if they were included. I believe Shemar Moore was on a soap.
Anyway, I can't believe Hansis didn't register. Unlike many of the celebrities here, Hansis is actively working. In a very visible gay role, no less. In fact, he's in the midst of a major storyline.
First the Daytime Emmys. and now the AfterElton Top 100. The kid gets robbed again! :)
Where are the hot older guys? What is the average age of these guys? And what is wrong with showing some beefy men? Come on, the target age of your readers must include some older guys, or at least young guys who are interested in older men. What is the age of the guys who put this list together?
Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Anderson Cooper, George Clooney and Matthew Fox are all over 40 and made the list. While there are attractive older men, I don't think the majority of 20 or 30-something gay men will swoon over a 50 year old Kevin Spacey or Bruce Willis the same way they will over a 25 year old Chris Evans or Jake Gyllenhaal. You might find it sad, but it's true. People are the same way with women, a 50 year old actress usually doesn't usually carry the same sex appeal a 25-30 year old actress does. I know there are people out there who think Sean Connery and Paul Newman are the epitome of sexy (and both men were when they were 30-40 years younger) but to a lot of us, they are just frankly too old.
afterelton.com made this list because I quote, "People magazine doesn't cater to gay men," I unquote. Why don't we, maturemenadmirers, make our own HOT 100 LIST? The list includes only men above 50 years old, and only certified maturemenadmirers can vote. I'm sure to see TOM WILKINSON on the first page of the list.
Whoever created this list must be a big fan of Lost since an unusually high number of cast were on it. Of course no list can be perfect. This list could have ventured more in style and age. Props for the nationality diversity.
We actually didn't draw up this list -- it was entirely reader-driven and was boiled down from thousands of votes, so any trends in the list are a reflection of that. It's true that LOST has four guys on the list, but so does HEROES -- I think it's just a matter of those shows being highly popular right now. I think it's more interesting that people like Jake G. and Taye Diggs made it so high on the list without currently having a project out -- that's pretty impressive.
Yeah, this is definitely a what's hot list of who's popular and on people's minds TODAY. Today, meaning about the past couple of years at least. I'm fairly certain that several of these people would have ranked differently if not for their recent work.
I, too, celebrate the diversity in this list, but also have no idea who many of these people are. But thanks to this list, I have some new guys to add to my personal favorites list!
"It's true that LOST has four guys on the list, but so does HEROES -- I think it's just a matter of those shows being highly popular right now. I think it's more interesting that people like Jake G. and Taye Diggs made it so high on the list without currently having a project out"
Brian, how would you explain the absence of Van Hansis from the list? While I agree that soaps are a niche genre (due to its time slot), Hansis is involved in a major gay storyline. Potentially groundbreaking, in fact. And he's reasonably attractive. So if Taye Diggs and Seth Green made it, why did AfterElton readers vote for Hansis? You bloggers have certainly mentioned him enough. In fact, you guys have linked my YouTube videos (thanks!). But the multimedia blitz didn't seem to work. Any theories?
Well, here's a little more multimedia! Just 25 more hours and this time I'm recording in HiDef!
people keep saying that #20 is too low for Heath Ledger, personally I think that people are way too hung up on Brokeback Mountain for him to rank so high. I thought he was sexy at one point in time but his looks are gone, I cannot believe he ranked higher than Channing Tatum, Wentworth Miller, David Beckham, Jensen Ackles and Paul Walker. While Jake isn't the #1 sexiest guy to me, I understand the appeal and don't argue with his placement.
oh, I know he was famous long before then. But I do believe his association with Brokeback did bump him about 50 places above where he should be (much like I don't think T.R. Knight would be top 10 if he wasn't out, he's cute, but more like #80 cute). He used to be sexy, I know... but I kinda took this list as present-moment, because I used to think Tom Cruise was sexy as well, but I wouldn't rank him anywhere on a present day hotness list.
Calling the show THE BOY FROM OZ "critically celebrated" is something only the show's publicist would dare. Hugh Jackman's performance, however, can correctly be described as such. Patrick Wilson's LITTLE CHILDREN and HARD CANDY were, to use your words, critically celebrated, so for you to call them unwatchable except for him is truly mystifying. Mario Lopez's character Slater has no "real life," so you need to correct his blurb's second sentence. And in the last sentence of Ian Summerholder, take out the word "respectively" (used incorrectly and superfluous). What is all over Joseph Gordon-Levitt[s body, his astrological chart? And congrats to whoever voted for Sufjan Stevens, the only highbrow on the list (though I embrassingly had never heard of him),
I loved that Tom Cruise didn't make the list! Seriously, I think he married the only person who thinks he's hot!! I would've love to have seen Rafael Marquez on the list! Well maybe next year!
I have to tell you as a straight female, I find your list WAY more appealing than People's list, which often leaves me going "huh?". And the fact that Cruise didn't get any votes make me all warm and fuzzy inside - I've never found him appealing, never will.
And I'm of course tickled pink that my man Anderson made the list :-)
i had a feeling............
...that jake was # 1.....
great list! :-D

Very Nice List

Barrowman
Would be #1 if Torchwood had already been broadcasted in the US!
This scene from Torchwood has generated so many fan clips!
check it out. Brokeback Mountain pales in comparison.
A handsome out gay actor...in a truly sexy romantic gay kiss, now that deserves #1

You go John!!!
Couldn't be happier.
Chris Evans (my top nomination) made #2. I'm quite pleased. Pleased with the whole list, quite frankly.
...except Channing Tatum. He really should be higher, but...nitpick. :P
Awesome List

And all in the top 50 no less.

I agree
Great list!
Great list
It's a great list, though incomplete considering it's missing Jérémie Renier.
You're joking, right?
Wow.
You have some serious issues. Get some therapy, soon.
Sorry
All is forgiven...

John Barrowman
Phew!!
Yep, totally agree, he would have been number 1 if you'd seen Torchwood yet or us women were voting too, still 10 is great.
You guys have great taste, some gorgeous men there. Would have been nice to see some older men though.
A Weighted List
We actually didn't draw up
And "Queer as Folk" ...
... had four cast-members listed (poor Hal Sparks) too, and that show isn't even on any more. (I miss it - they need to a reunion movie.)

TOM BRADY!
Isn't that hot!?!?!?!?
Delicious
Yes the list is great
people keep saying that #20
Not everyone is a Johnny Come Lately
I liked Heath since I first saw him, long before "Brokeback". I even watched "10 Things I Hate About You" and "A Knight's Tale" because of him.

A few observations and corrections (I can't help myself)

If we are getting nit-picky ...
Hugh Jackman did "Oklahoma!" in London, not Sydney.

I loved the list
I loved that Tom Cruise didn't make the list! Seriously, I think he married the only person who thinks he's hot!! I would've love to have seen Rafael Marquez on the list! Well maybe next year!

John Barrowman
I just wanted to make a correction to your information below John's photo.
He has previously released three (3) solo albums: Reflections of Broadway, Swings Cole Porter & Aspects of Andrew Lloyd Webber .
And as someone else commented, as hot as John is as Captain Jack Harkness in Doctor Who and on Torchwood, he should be #1 on the list!
so great...
All are my favorite actors.....:)
John Barrowman should be # 1!!!!
Or at least #2
They should do another list...
WHAT?!?
What?!?
No Djimon Hounsou?!?
No Jimi Mistry?!?
How insane are we?!?
M.
ON THE OTHER HAND...
On the other hand...I am DELIGHTED by the inclusion of Seth Green!!!
OOOO, BABY!
(I thought I was the only one lusting after Seth!)
