i really believe that the first category (Man of the Year) should go to ALL of the gay (and ofcourse our lesbian/bi sisters too) who went to the streets from across the nation to stand up against the injustices brought about by the passage of Prop. 8. There was no Harvey Milk...no Martin Luther King to unite these people of all colors and even sexual orientation - gays, staights, black, white, asians - all took to the streets... without one or a group of symbolic leaders to fan the flames - each and everyone made the difference (although the impact is yet to be seen)... still it is a historic moment in the GLBT Civil Rights Movement.
I won't lisp, er list, all my nominees, except to sat they include heaping helpings of Supernatural, My Name is Earl, Ollie and Christian (as well as Christian and Ollie), Scott Heim, and Brideshead Revisited. Oh, and Matthew Mitcham, as if he gave a damn. I don't know anything about reality television, so I left those categories blank.
My question: what happened to the music categories? I wanted to nominate Titiyo Jah and Marit Bergman for "300 Slow Days in a Row," (it's a riot) and Sam Sparro for "Black and Gold," and Rufus Wainwright for Gay Messiah (not the song, I really think he may BE the Gay Messiah). I also wanted to nominate the model in swimming trunks (Jason Beitel) in Kylie Minogue's "The One" video for all-around hotness. By the way, Titiyo's "Longing for Lullabies" (with Kleerup) will achieve one million hits on Youtube sometime this week, so my pimping paid off--on Youtube, at least. One million hits is pretty good for a song that was barely released outside of Sweden. So here it is again:
1) Adamo Ruggiero (for being so gay positive before he was out, for coming out and being so OUT at such a young age, for being fabulous and adorable)
2) Raising the bar - Charlie Comes Out - He's just a powerful actor and I cared about him. The show is so so but Charlie was just very real and quite and strong. And you could feel the relief in the character and change in his way of moving in the world once he was out and more comfortable with himself.
3) Greek - Love me some Heath and Michael, I'm warming to Calvin.
4) Survivor - Charlie and Marcus Hobromance
5) Charlie of Survivor - Strong player, unabashedly out and proud, sweet and intelligent
6) Charlie Sangansky - Raising The bar (Bravery, Honesty, Sex appeal he and Wilson Cruz scorched my screen)
7) Amir and Harel of "Til The Wedding" Both are sexy, very hot together, honest with each other and loving and sweet even when they disagree. They challenge each other and are willing to listen and grow and change for each other. The actor bring such depth and meaning to such tiny scenes every week. Also, did I mention SMOKING HOT!
8) Grey's Anatomy - Soilders Saying Goodbye
9) 1st Amir and Harel - BEST. FIRST. KISS. EVER. , 2nd. Roman and Deniz (AWZ) - 3rd Christian and Oliver in the Boxing Ring (Verbotiene Liebe). 4th Spike/JP outside The Loft -
(Hollyoaks)
10) Marcus of Survivor - sweet, affectionate, unabashed and unapologetic in his support for Charlie.
11) Rachel Maddow (because she's dead sexy and smartypants about all things political and fiery and DYKEY TO THE MAX) Wanda Sykes (for everything she is and does)
12) Brothers and Sisters - The Proposal (for fans of Scotty and Kevin from day one, it was PERFECT)
13) Prop 8 Wins (for what it actually did and for how it's made us feel about each other and our place in society. LET THE REVOLUTION BEGIN!
14) Another Gay Movie (Hilarious, fearless, unabashed, IN YOUR FACE GAY) I loved the director's comments as well. - Griff and Jarod - classic best friends fall in love but dirty too. so sweet!
15) AE, Gays of Daytime, Queerty ( I can't decide. They each serve a different purpose for me)
"Heterosexuality is not normal, it's just common." (Dorothy Parker)
The Man of the Year I propose are two people: Jennfier Pizer and Jon W. Davidson. These were the lead lawyers in the California marriage case. They brought it home and won a great victory that was ruined by Prop 8. By giving it to both a man and a woman on this site dedicated to gay men only would send a message that gender didn't matter this year, effort did. So rather than focus on a celebrity for the big media frenzy, pick two people who actually delivered and delivered huge. If not them, then the whole legal team which also included Shannon Minzer, a transgender lawyer as well.
Wouldn't it be great to intereview these two people about their perspective on winning it all only having it taken all away with Prop 8? Wouldn't it be great to hear what they thought was the most touching moment to them during the whole process going into the case before the court. Wouldn't it be great to know how these two workhorses did their job?
I want to nominate, but I don't really know who or what to submit for most of the categories... Only that I do hope Beautiful People would have a fair chance for Best Comedy.
