Interview with "Project Runway" runner-up Rami KashouRami's boyfriend, Jeff
AE: I noticed when Tim visited you in Los Angeles on the second to last episode, you introduced your partner as one of your best friends, rather than as your boyfriend or partner. Our readers all commented on that and I was wondering — were you hesitant to be identified as an out gay contestant, and what was the reason you didn't identify your partner that way?
This was a very intense time, you know, eight months of our lives. And mind you, me and Chris, we had a whole extra challenge [on the show]. We had fifty extra pounds on our backs. So it really affected my personal life, and during that time we decided to have a little break. And that's why he was introduced that way. Everything is fine now, but it's a very intense period of time and it can really affect your personal life. I won't go into details too much, but that's pretty much what happened. I don't really push the gay thing, nor do I hide it. Really I push my work. Of course, it's about us, we're people. But it's really more about a product that I would hope people would learn more about, and if other questions fall in about me personally, I'm happy to answer them. Rami, Christian Siriano, Victorya Hong
RK: Not as of now. The show just wrapped. I'm hopeful, I'll tell you that much. We will see. When I came back from the show, I did my Spring/Summer 2008 very quick mini-collection, that I'm now shipping to stores, because I wanted to make sure that when the show ended, my product was already in stores so people can go out and buy it. Next I will be working on my Spring/Summer. I couldn't do fall, because I was working on the collection [for the show]. I'll continue to do collections as usual. Other gigs come up. I'm being invited as a guest for an event called "Seeds of Peace" about promoting peace between Israelis and Palestinians, and human justice all over the world. I'm very proud of that. I'm being asked to speak here and there, and asked about special orders, wedding gowns, evening gowns. Other things are brewing that I'll be more clear about if I choose to take these paths. We'll definitely see. Submitted by on Sun, 2008-03-09 21:53. |

Interesting. Though I
During the whole kerfuffle
During the whole kerfuffle about Rami calling that guy his "friend" I figured they were either split up or had only just met and weren't at that "put a name on it" stage. I figured there had to be some reason since Rami was absolutely out on the show.
Rami came across many times as arrogant, especially when the judges criticized his work, so it doesn't surprise me at all that he perceived there to be some sort of "agenda" to their feedback. Yes, he had some different pieces. But what the judges were telling him was that he was falling back too easily on what he did WELL (evening dresses) and not branching out... that's what they were looking for. So it's not the same as saying "that's a bad dress." It's saying "Yes, yes, we all KNOW you can do a draped evening gown and sell it... how about surprising us?"
After reading this article, it reaffirms for me that Christian deserved to win. His bravado and attitude were all an act, as we saw in the last few episodes, and despite having an impressive resume of his own, he didn't act as though he was above feedback from those with more experience. He actually LISTENED to some of the things Tim Gunn suggested, whereas Rami always took the attitude of "Um.... yeah, right, thanks Tim."
Rami ALWAYS created stunning designs
I have complete admiration for Rami, he's an inspiration.
I think that in the last 2 episodes Rami truly came out of his shell and showed much compassion and sincerity. Besides being completely sexy.. there was a sense of depth about him.. no matter what kind of a loop there was for him, he handled it with grace and never doubted himself as a designer or lost his purpose.
It seems to be so easy to get wrapped up in the bitchery that occupies most reality TV shows and I think this guy remained elegant and a class act.. something we don't normally see when it comes to a competition show for $ 100,000.00
I am a firm believer that Rami is too good to be on a reality show but in the end am hopeful that he got what he needed out of it. I appreciate especially his much expressed appreciation in the end and his exit interviews. I love the way he positively views each situation which is what has led to his success so far I imagine..
Integrity and white towels
So nice to see so many types of real men on TV “representin’” the tribe.
Although I’ve gotta admit that it’s hard not become a stalker for Rami, his strong sense of style, self, integrity and white towel (episode III over in front of the window).A lot to admire...
Ugh!
