Interview with JD Jordan and Jesse Brune

AE: It seems likes there's always some sort of drama brewing around Sky Sport, way more than I would expect at your average gym. How much of the drama is generated just for the show and how much is real?
JDJ:
Jesse has a little more experience with that considering he has three seasons, but I honestly think it's 50/50, especially with some of the trainers who want more attention. I think they're willing to put themselves out on a ledge to create more drama just to get more exposure. But that's just what I thought. I kind of, for the most part, kept my nose out of any drama because I didn't want to be involved in it or that way later on. I didn't want any regrets, so that's how I thought about it. But I'm sure Jesse has more experience.

AE: More experience with the drama or with the show?
JB:
Probably both. [laughs] You know, it's a lesson learned … The more experience you get, the more you learn how to be clever with your camera hogging. Sometimes you see the new people come in and they're doing things and you're like, "Oh, you're gonna regret that one!" "You should not have slept with that person on camera." [Both laugh] "You should not have said that." "Did you really jump in the pool with ... Oh no! Okay. Live and learn."
JDJ: It's interesting to do something and have all these different perspectives from the other trainer's comments about you. It's like, "Oh, you're a slut" or "You shouldn't have done that." It's weird to actually watch yourself.

Or like when the warm-up [episode] came out, the 30 minute preview [of Work Out], and you hear some of the stuff people said about you. It's just tricky to not take it personally. Even with editing ... They were talking about how Jesse's changed and he's a nicer person, but then you see all these clips of him being like, "Oh, he's a douche bag," and I don't think you were talking about me, but it panned right into me. I think you were talking about — well, I think I know who you were talking about — but they made it sound like you were talking about me. I think that was just the editing, but I could be wrong.
JB: I don't remember calling anyone a douche bag.
JDJ: Well, you did. [laughs] I think you said, "I think he's a douche bag," and then they said "JD..."
JB: I know someone said to me, "You were mean to JD in that preview." And I was like, "No I wasn't! I was nice to JD!"
JDJ: You were! It's just funny because it's all part of the editing, so you have to try not to take it personally. You're never sure what context it was in or anything like that.

AE: The other new trainer, Greg, seems to have generated quite the reaction from the others, partly from what seemed like envy that he’s so in shape. Isn’t that kind of the point? You guys work at a gym after all.
JDJ:
Greg is a fitness model. It just kind of goes with the territory. That's his business. From my perspective, I don't think everyone was really drooling over him and I don't think the other trainers were really envious. I just think he was this enigma. On the show, he was supposed to be the eye candy. That's how he was portrayed as this big muscle, model stud who everybody was into. I mean, Greg's great, but I'm not into him, and I don't think Jesse is into him.
JB: JD, you had such a crush on him. Come on.
JDJ:
Just his basket. [laughs] I'm just kidding. No...

Work Out's Greg

JB: Greg, you know, first impression when he was first introduced I felt like everyone was like, "Oh, I know exactly who this guy is. I know exactly where this is going." But, what's funny, and this is why I think Greg is going to be a really great character, is that he turned out to be this really great guy. At first, I thought he was this total meathead, narcissist, fitness model with no conversation skills, and he turned out to be this really amazing guy.
JDJ: He has a lot to say and he has great insight. I think he does surprise people when he opens his mouth and he's eloquent or he has knowledge about something. You don't expect it, but he is pretty well rounded.
JB:
Granted, he is hot as hell. [laughs]
JDJ:
Oh, so you are into him!
JB:
Oh my gosh! He's beautiful! I would not know what to do with him. I honestly wouldn't.
JDJ:
I agree he's in great shape and he's a beautiful guy, but I have zero attraction to him.
JB:
But JD's body is just as nice, I think your body is just as nice as his.
JDJ:
Aw, thank you, Jesse. That's so sweet, but it's not true.
JB:
You're totally, totally ripped. I lost twenty pounds since last season and I'm still the fat kid.

AE: In the second episode, Jackie reveals that she wanted to push the two of you together romantically. How did you guys feel about that?
JDJ: I think Jackie's a troublemaker because Jesse has a boyfriend. I think she was trying to stir the pot. I mean, I was single so you know. I've seen Jesse naked on my massage table so I've seen all his business, and it all looks good, but he's taken. [laughs]
