Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors Tour" Kicks Off in BostonAfter having seen her perform on the True Colors Tour last year, I can honestly say that this set rocked harder, longer and more passionately than Year One.
Her voice was impeccable as she shrieked her way through fan faves like "When You Were Mine," "She Bop" and "I Drove All Night."
The crowd went crazy when Cyndi amped things up by having Rosie come out to play drums on "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun".
Rosie hits the drums But the highlight of the evening was when Lucas from The Cliks performed a slick duet on "Money Changes Everything".
Lucas Silveira, Cyndi For the encore/finale, the majority of the performers returned to the stage with Cyndi (along with an impressive set of oversized, rainblow colored "balloons") for two more songs, "Everyday People" and, of course, "True Colors".
The True Colors Tour has only just begun, and if you have been on the fence about buying tickets, just do it! As the show crosses the country, the line up changes; so if the Indigo Girls, Tegan and Sara, Joan Jett or Andy Bell from Erasure are more your speed, then check out which shows will feature them. I promise you won't be disappointed. Oh, I'll also be hitting the Foxwoods show on June 6th so if you're there and you see me, say "Hi!" All photography by Dan McCallum. i'm so jealous!
I can't believe Cyndi performed "Goonies". I read an interview where she said she rarely performs it anymore, but i think it's her most underrated single.
visit my personal blog!...NOW!
Good enough for you...
I saw the next show (at Jones Beach, with Indigo Girls) and Cyndi didn't play Goonies!! I'm mad jealous. And Carson had definitely warmed up by the time he got to us, because he seriously stole the show - HILARIOUS. Overall I agree, it's a blast and totally worth checking out.
Oh, and we all said the same thing about Keith from B-52s. He must have a portrait in his attic that looks like Mickey Rooney by this point!
Fantastic
Great Concert -- Don't Miss It
I was at the True Colors kick off in Boston as well, and thanks for the excellent wrap up. The highlights:
The B-52's really bringing the Party with them 25 years after I originally saw them in Boston. Their energy and unique style was incredibly refreshing -- LOVED "Rock Lobster", "Private Idaho", "Roam" and "Love Shack" and their new stuff sounded solid as well. But it is really wonderful to see how much they seem to really enjoy each other. The clustering of the four of them together often on stage, the seemingly sincere looks exchanged. If I'm wrong, they don't show it. If I'm right, it is because it translates from stage to audience.
Cyndi Lauper sounded amazing. I've always liked Cyndi but I guess I always thought of her more of a personality who had some good songs. Here she demonstrates what an accomplished vocalist she is and incredible performer. She has great chemistry with the crowd (including a few times she ventures into the audience to sing), and her vocals were wonderful. The duet on Money Changes Everything was ELECTRIC! And her Time After Time still packs an emotional wallop. How fun, too, to see Girls Just Want to Have Fun, live!
Carson was fun, a perfect host(ess), and although I wasn't a big fan of the material from Rosie this time, I did see the layer of personalization that she was reaching for and the impact of performing on the anniversary of her mother's birthday was evident when she left stage fighting back deep emotion. She's been a TRUE advocate and for that I celebrate her.
Great concert and if you get the chance, GO!
