AE: Changing topics, did you see Kristin
Chenoweth’s Public Service “Ad” about meth use?
BF: Kristin Chenoweth is fearless. She
is somebody who I hope that I am working with for many years to come, beyond Daisies
and into our twilight years. She is one of the brightest, cheeriest, most
pleasant people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. She has such a great sense of humor and is a
wonderful Christian woman that believes in her Lord and doesn’t use that as a
weapon in any way. She just uses it as two open arms to hug whoever comes
across her path. And the fact that here is this woman who is a Christian and such
a good soul, and she is singing this song about crack and sucking d*ck. It just
shows you, it’s very telling about her as a human being.

AE: Are you still hooked on Project Runway?
BF: I am. I think this season isn’t as strong as previous
seasons, but I love - is it Tracy?
MJ: No, it’s Terri.
BF: We just call her Donna Summer. I think she’s fantastic
and you know who I love on this season, I love love love? – is Jerell. He won me over. He broke the sort of like bitchy gay stereotype when the
leather lady was the last one picked and he made her feel so welcome and so
appreciated and the smile that he put on her face, I will root for him until
the end because talk about being just a good person and avoiding – think funny
and flamboyant and fantastic, but never mean.
AE: I thought that was so classy.
BF: It made me want to cry. It was just one of those human
moments where you’re like – wow, that’s a human kindness moment where everybody
was making remarks about her and how they didn’t want to be stuck with her and
he was so classy and sweet and I just, I adore him. He’s my favorite.
AE: That was everything I’ve got for you, Bryan. We are so
pulling for you to win that Emmy. When you win, I want you to take that Emmy and whack Tina Fey
with it!
BF: [Laughing] I’ll beat that bitch down!
AE: Now go take care of yourself.
BF: Thanks Michael. It was great talking to you.
Thanks for the great interview, Michael!
I always find so much to enjoy and admire about Mr. Fuller's projects - it's good to know that he's a thoughtful, creative force behind the scenes. The new "Star Trek" movie looks somewhat promising, albeit devoid of gay characters, but I'd be fascinated to see Fuller's take on a new Star Trek series. After seeing how badly the series Enterprise was screwed up by the old guard, I'd say it's time for someone with an entirely new vision to take charge of that TV franchise.
Oh, and I definitely echo Fuller's admiration for the talent and spirit of Kristin Chenoweth - it's a shame there aren't more self-proclaimed "Christians" who share her outlook on what it means to live a true Christian life.
I LOVE This Guy
...for so many reasons:
Pushing Daisies is one of my favorite new shows of last season. I'm really looking forward to it's October debut. Very nice interview, Michael! Your questions seem to have matched Fuller's quirky sensibilities very well!
I hope you'll interview him again sometime soon. I'd love to hear more about his inspirations regarding writing the romance into the show. I love the set-up that the two lead characters can't touch each other and yet this is still one of the most romantic comedies I've seen in a long while.
I'd also like to know if it was a deliberate choice to cast the majority of both leading characters and guest stars with actors who are known primarily for their work on the Broadway stage.
In reading about his plans for a possible Star Trek series, I'd like to know if he's already got a 'termination date' set for Pushing Daisies (similar to the plan to limit the number of seasons for Desperate Housewives)?
Basically, I'd just like to hear more of anything regarding how this show is put together. Hearing from tech folks like the art director would be really great (and if you could sneak in an interview with Kristen Chenoweth, I'd probably wet myself...).

I created his Wikipedia article a few years ago.....
...Is that sad to admit? I wasn't responsible for the "meteoric career" bit though.....
Anyway, LOVE BF! Dead Like Me is my favourite TV show ever. It's getting a new Direct-to-DVD movie out in 2009 you know.(And, though I think he was right to leave if people at MGM were being so mean to him, I do actually like where the story went with Georgia's dad a lot, I think it ended up being more interesting than the idea of him being Gay leading Georgia to appreciate her birth: I think she already had after she died, and watching Joy and clancy's relationship dissolve like it did after her death wouldn't have been as good if it was because he was Gay. I don't think Masius and Godchaux changed it because of pressure by MGM: I think they just wanted to be able to break Clancy and Joy up and be able to bring them together again.)
I really wish Wonderfalls would be released in R2, I can't import the DVD.
I love Pushing Daisies too, wish the DVD had extras though. When he says the Coroner being Gay in Pushing Daisies was pushed to the sidelines, does he mean it was planned for Season one or that it's not happening in Season 2 anymore?
Bryan Fuller
He sounds like a really great guy. I've really liked all his shows, and he seems like he has a wonderful outlook on life.
I also second you trying to get an interview with Kristin Chenowith--I met her a few years ago and she's a fabulous person.
Also, YAY FOR HAIRY CHESTS--BAN WAXING.
Thanks for the insightful interview
I have never been fortunate to meet Bryan so your interview gives some insight to who he is--well done. The first thing I ever taped when VCRs first came out was evry episode of Star Trek. It was usch fun to curl up with my heroes any time I wanted. I have since replaced those antiquated tapes with DVDs and still watch them. After STNG I was strapped for time and saw little of the rest of the series but I almost never watch them now. The "Trouble with Tribbles" was, is, and always will be my favorite episode.
I look forward to Bryan Fuller being a part of my life for years to come.
