Straight Men Kissing

Chas Licciardello on Australia’s Rove

Chas Licciardello, one of the Australia comedy group The Chasers, gave a very clear answer to host Rove McManus’ question “Who would you turn gay for?” in an episode of the Australian talk show Rove, in May of last year. Chas and Rove went for it, but the rest of the panel’s reaction was a bit off-putting.

Sexiness: 5 + Freshness: 5 - Gay panic: 5 = 5 Hot Kiss Rating!

Day-um, did Chas have any lips left after that?

O, to be kissed like that again!  :)

The "Dude, Where's My Car?" kiss has always been a fave, largely because it just came so completely out of right field, and Scott and Kushter totally went for it while playing it "straight" as it were.  (Parker and Stone did a similar bit in "BASEketball.")

eeeeeh

This kiss in the video with Chas would have been hotter if it weren't for the obvious looping of the video.

rove mcmanus kiss

I think those people's shocked or embarassed reaction to Rove being kissed by Chas, has less to do with the fact that Rove was kissed by a guy, than the fact that Rove was ambush tongue kissed by anybody. And I gather that Chas Licciardello has kind of a screwball reputation, so I am guessing it would be equivalent to being kissed by Tom Green, which is something you would like some warning for. I think Rove handled it quite will, though.

Just wanted to point out

Just wanted to point out that the video of the kiss between Rove and Chaz was edited to make it seem longer by repeating it several times. In reality it was about 5 seconds long.

Perhaps not so much panic

I don't think the gay panic deduction was warranted on the Fredo/Michael kiss. The only panic there is that Fredo knows it means his death. I don't think he was concerned this was going to make him gay... or incestuous. Of course, there wasn't quite the sexiness or freshness there either. It was a case of a kiss being something entirely other than a kiss.
Hallah's picture

Yes, exactly.

Thank you, you took the words right out of my keyboard. I don't see any gay panic there (or incest panic, if you'd rather). Just "I'm so very dead" panic.

"It was a case of a kiss being something entirely other than a kiss," states it rather exactly, I think.

Every straight girl's dream

You have no idea how excited the title of this blog made me :P

Really good list, I especially liked the kiss between Ashton and Sean. Didn't really see the gay panic in the Godfather kiss, though it was more panic at knowing he was going to die. Also, for the Rove McManus kiss (love his show by the way), I agree with the above comments that I don't really see it as gay panic, just shock. You can see his behind the scenes blog about the kiss here -->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mw2kQRMFbyk

I love Rove's daily routine of asking his guests who he would go gay for. Yes, some exhibit gay panic in their response, like Will Smith, but others just go with it. Best one is Michael Buble, the video is really adorable, go search it on YouTube. Rove also has a fake crush on Hugh Jackman, so the episode where he interviews Hugh is hilarious.

Others that I could think of were the kiss between Emile Hirsch and Rayn Donowho in "Imaginary Heroes" (I'm pretty sure both characters are straight, and the kiss may be the result of taking drugs, but it is still hot) and the MadTV skit with the straight football fans (not sure if it really counts though, as the characters might actually be gay). There is also a kiss between Sean William Scott and Jason Biggs in American Pie 2, but it is very much gay panic, not really worth watching.

But I leave you with Will Ferrell and Sascha baren Cohen winning Best Kiss at the MTV Movie Awards. They certainly seem to like each other, lol.

You taste of America...

I always really liked the kiss between Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell at the end of Talladega Nights, partly because I didn't expect it, and part because I thought it was pretty hot.

Of course, I love the whole movie, that kiss is just the icing on the cake. I love that they did an encore when they won best kiss at the MTV movie awards...

I'm also one for removing the gay panic points from Godfather II. It's the kiss of death. Fredo is not worried that his brother is gay and coming on to him. He's worried his brother is actually going to KILL HIM!

Psionycx's picture

Taladega Nights was great!

Although Cohen's character was a blatant stereotype (of gays and the French) so was everyone else in the movie. What was funnier was on the uncut DVD version where there's a shot of Jean Girard on the podium after one of his Formula One victories kissing his husband, then cutting to the confused and slightly horrified expressions of two NASCAR commentators.

It was even better that in spite of his flamboyance Jean Girard was depicted as a true nemesis for Ricky Bobby and not just a comic foil. He was a better race car driver, better fighter and more intelligent. This was a nice change given that in the past the gay competitor would probably have been depicted as winning races by cheating or something like that and the straight hero would have to win by overcoming the opponent's nefarious methods.

Seven Load

Please try and avoid using clips from Seven Load again.  Between the advertising and the generally poor quality of the clips, they are quite annoying.  I ended up not watching clips toward the end because I could see they were from Seven Load.

Radcliffe likes his boy-kisses

Daniel Radcliffe most like kissing boys because here is another clip of him giving Rove a peck on the cheek.  Very cute.

Chas and Rove

I saw no gay panic, also I don't think the Godfather clip deserved a gay panic either. There was no gay panic, just an I'm going to die panic. lol

Halle and Daniel Handled Kisses Perfectly

I think they both just went with it.

They are all actors who are familiar with each other and travel in the same circles. They were surprised but it was sweet/funny/sexy depending upon when and where and whom and one's POV.

I don't get the "knee in the balls" reaction.  That seems extreme.

It's not like Adrian Brody just grabbed the bus driver on the crosstown M48 and laid one on him.

He just took the "presenter's kiss" to the next level and Halle Berry seemed to roll with it.

I would also say Adrien Brody got tit for tat as it were when Queen Latifah gave his a big wet one.

I can't say I'd be mad at being kissed by anyone of those three.

All ambush kisses are not created equal and both Halle Berry and Dan Radcliffe seemed to think it was ultimately funny,  if unexpected.  Neither seemed offended.

Maybe I'm missing something.

Y Tu Mama is a lot more complicated than you let on

It's about incredibly horny teenage boys who while friends are quite competitive with one another in rather subtle ways. One is very upper class while the other is decidedly middle. The trip with Luisa changes everything because it brings them closer to sexual understanding and closer to death. And a major part of this sexual understanding is their genuine attraction to one another. They are at the very least Kinsey 2s.

It's all to be short-lived of course, in one of the best and certainly the most  emotionally devestating endings in the history of the cinema ("They will not see each other again." -- "Check!")

As for other gay stuff I can hardly wait for Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno

Brent Hartinger's picture

You may be right

But I interpret that scene to be primarily about "the moment" and about their friendship, not so much a revelation of sexuality.

It's my turn

After all the lists I've written in articles (and one book) where I've had to endure all the "I can't believe you left out..." comments, I finally get to make one myself:

I can't believe you left out Baseketball!

Hot!

I never thought Will Ferrell kissing anyone would get me turned on, but that kiss really did it for me.

Also the Ashton/Scott was really hot, i think they should have gotten the highest score.

Chas and Rove

Gay panic on Rove? Are you kidding? Its one of the most homoerotic shows on TV. The cast flirt with each other all the time and have from time to time joked around with physical affection, especially the men on the couch. Later in the show the comedian Dave Hughes (who isn't on the couch but comes on in a later segment) joked about how many hits on youtube it would get since it was so hot.

I watched the Chas-Rove kiss when it happened, and I didn't think there was a negative reaction amongst the rest of the panel. It seemed more like they were laughing at the way Chas was kissing Rove, and at the kiss as a punchline to what Chas said to Rove before he kissed him, which has been edited out of the video (the kiss has been meddled with too, it only lasted about 15 seconds as others have mentioned).

When Rove asked them who they would turn gay for, Chas mentioned that many guys have said 'Rove' at various times but none of them ever follow through (because its the cop-out answer the male guests use when they don't really want to think about it). Then he launched himself on Rove. Afterwards, Rove was focussed not on the fact that Chas was a guy, but on the fact that Chas had kissed him in such a way that now his face smelt like saliva. Good times.

I have to agree with this

I have to agree with this comment. It's really Chas poking fun at the male celebrities who make a point of asserting their heterosexuality when confronted with this question.

And, no , he's nothing like Tom Green. Not even a little bit.

Good to see the Rove kiss!

I was actually planning on mentioning it in the comments, then it turned out it was on the list (and already commented on quite a bit!). Chas has also had a couple of man-on-man kisses with fellow Chaser (pedantic fan here - it's the Chaser team, NOT THE CHASERS!) member Andrew Hansen in a couple of stunts.
They've also done a stunt testing whether or not Tinky Winky the Teletubby is actually gay, by trying to get into a gay club dressed up as him.

I could go on about the Chaser all day...

Imaginary Heroes wasn't mentioned but was the hottest kiss ever

The kiss was unbelievable in the movie because you didn't see this coming and ever boy that I wanted to kiss, when I was younger and didn't, I pictured in my head that it went down similar to this unbelievable screen kiss, between two hot and allegedly straight actors.  The kiss they shared was innocent without being too lame but sizzling hot, without setting off firealarms.

Since I have had the pleasure of kissing a few girls and a great deal of boys (like most of us have), I have come to the conclusion that there isn't any difference between kissing a woman or man.  Even better I have kissed a few guys who claimed to be straight and I have kissed a great deal of gay men and once again, there is no difference.  I love to kiss and I have been in a few relationships with non-kissers and that is just wrong.

It seems one year, I went a complete year without sharing an intimate and passionate kiss from anyone.  You don't know what that does to a guy who spend his entire life practicing on mellons, on the wall and anyone who would kiss me.  Then to my suprise on New Year's Eve, while working one of my very straight-but-extremely-comfortable co-workers planted the counted kiss on me.  You have to remember that this co-worker is comfortable being straight because his dad is gay and his mother is a lesbian, Go Figure.  However he is completely about the ladies and the most unlikely gay supporter you ever want to meet.  From tattoos and piercings, this boy has ink and steel all over his body.  I guarantee if you would meet him in a dark alley, you would instantly start running because his look is cross between a Neo-Nazi and strictly Goth God.

5, 4, 3, 2, and I was used to giving him hugs because he was extremely comfortable and very pro-straight.  Every other word out of his mouth was about vaginas and how he was this master of the art of turning women out.  Blah, blah, blah....I basically endured a bit of teasing from him from time to time about being gay and I have to say that it was normally harmless on occasions but other times, I wanted to ring his thick neck.  Now it was officially 12:00 and a brand new year and just him and I were in the back of the restaurant we both worked at and I was leaning in for a New Year hug and positively a little peck on his cheek but I was dead wrong.  He planted a kiss on me that undeniably knocked me right out of my socks.  After a complete minute passed, I was speechless.  He took me on a magic carpet ride that I will never forget because he even dip me back.  Hell, I even felt his tongue piercing swishing around my mouth.  Talk about being in shock, I almost had to be rushed to the hospital afterwards because I still couldn't believe it.  Of course, no one was around except our job has cameras everywhere and even though he never denied to anyone, no one saw just how intense this kiss was.  Even more shocking is the simple fact that I waited an entire year for the best kiss of my life.  His pierced lips were soft like velvet and his tongue was so warm in my mouth, that I became a bit aroused.  I remember grabbing his bald head and caressing like a bowling ball and attempting to give him the best kiss back but I couldn't compete with his mastering skills of kissing.
