The 2nd Annual Gay People's Choice Awards Nominees

Here at AfterElton.com we spend a great deal of time thinking and writing about movies and television shows with gay characters and major gay storylines. But the dirty little secret is that we gay pop culture consumers are also fans of lots of entertainments that might have little or nothing to do with GLBT representation.

Like a certain annual awards show with a similar name, we thought we'd ask the public (well, our public at least) to vote on what they considered the best of 2009 in this, our 2nd Annual Gay People's Choice Awards. The objective is to see how our readers' tastes in mainstream entertainment differ from those of a more general audience.

We're asking you to vote on your favorites in the traditional movie, television and music categories, but to liven things up a bit we've included a few special awards ("Worst Movie", "Favorite Lesbian", "Favorite Guilty Pleasure", etc.) that you might not find covered anywhere else this awards season!

For each category we've assembled what we consider to be the top contenders, but if your favorite isn't listed, never fear – write-in candidates are allowed.

Voting will be open until midnight Friday, January 15th. Then we'll tally the results and announce the winners at our lavish awards banquet at the Friends of Dorothy Chandler Pavilion! For those who can't attend, we'll also of course be posting them on the site.
