Watch: Daniel Hernandez Says He Isn't a Hero. President Obama Insists Otherwise.

Daniel Hernandez, Jr.

Fourteen thousand students, politicians and ordinary citizens were in attendance Wednesday night at the University of Arizona's McKale Memorial Center for the "Together We Thrive: Tucson and America" memorial service for those killed and injured alst Saturday in the mass shooting at a Tucson Safeway where Giffords was meeting with constituents.

Among those in attendance at the memorial was twenty-year-old David Hernandez Jr. who rushed to the aid of injured Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. Hernandez is widely credited with saving the congresswoman's life by giving her first aid.

At the memorial service where Hernandez was one of those being honored, the gay college student said, "Out of many, one. One thing that we have learned from this great tragedy is that we came together. On Saturday we all became Tusconians, on Saturday we all became Arizonans, and above all, we all became Americans."

Hernandez also "humbly" declined the title of hero saying that word applied to others including first responders and other medical personnel. During his remarks later during the service, President Obama said that the while Hernandez might not consider himself a hero, the rest of the nation did.
