Joss Whedon on Writing a Strong Gay Male Character: It's on His Agenda

This scene might have gone so differently if Joss Whedon were writing it now.
On Saturday, Joss Whedon took questions from fans at his very own Comic Con panel. The Buffy, Firefly, Dollhouse, Dr. Horrible creator (and Avengers director) spent 49 minutes on such topics as whether Firefly would ever be a Broadway musical (No); Why does he consistently include strong female characters in his work (He's secretly a fourteen-year-old girl); and can fans expect a Dr. Horrible sequel? (Yes!)
Towards the end of the session, one fan noted all the strong lesbian characters that Whedon had written and asked if he'd ever consider writing for a strong out gay male character.
"Yeah, totally." Whedon responded. "I've actually wanted to do a [comic] book, I have a particular one in mind. It's not on the front burner, but I do think it's about time. At some point you write enough lesbians and you begin to realize, 'This is just a guy! This isn't feminist. This is Cinemax!'"
"So I think it's time for a little equal opportunity. Besides, who doesn't love c*ck?"
Gotta love Joss Whedon.
You can find that particular exchange at about the 45:15 minute mark in the video of the session below.
