Celebrity Twitterwatch: Going Gaga For the VMAs! Plus Chris Colfer Is Power Mad and Real Housewives of Outer Space!

I still think she looks like Ralph Macchio

It's time for us to take a look back at what our favorite celebrities were tweeting about over the past week. It seems like so long ago that we were worried Hurricane Irene was going to wipe out the cast of Jersey Shore and MTV chartered a jet to whisk them to the safety of the Video Music Awards. Wait, did I say worried?

I know that Lady Gaga doing the entire Video Music Awards show dressed as her alter ego Jo Calderone was supposed to be edgy. But when the top two tweets I found about the performance were from men born in 1926, I think she may have missed her target audience. First up, Tony Bennett, who I admire greatly for staying with the times, seems to think her performance was up there with the greats he's known in his life, like Elizabeth Taylor.

Next up is comic Don Rickles, who if I'm honest, I would have expected something crude from on the Jo Calderone thing. But he chose to go with "clueless old dude" which was refreshing.

What struck me as I livetweeted the VMAs was how polarizing Chris Brown's performance was. I personally hated seeing him welcomed to a stage that prominent, though I had to admit if it had been anyone else putting on that acrobatic display, I would have been chair dancing. As a man who knows something about animals, Dave Salmoni put it best.

And I'm just not ready to forgive Brown for that. Adorable Travis Wall cheered the performance, but then had to clarify what he was happy about. Still, it begs the question of what it was like for those dancers to work with someone as violent and homophobic as Chris Brown.
