Armie Hammer Is Hollywood's Newest "It" Boy, But Don't Touch His Chest Hair!

When The Social Network became part of the pop culture zeitgeist, Armie Hammer was carried along in its wake, thanks to his performance as the much-maligned Winklevoss twins.

He used those noteworthy roles to springboard his film career, with new parts as Prince Charming in the upcoming big-budget version of Snow White (with Julia Roberts as the Evil Queen), and as Clyde Tolson, in Clint Eastwood's bio-pic J. Edgar.

Armie is interviewed in the new issue of Details, and talks about both roles.

About his role as the iconic Prince (his first leading-man performance), he takes it in stride, trying to perform his own stunts, witnessing dwarves puking, and putting his foot down when TPTB asked him to sacrifice too much for the role:

"Julia had a line about how smooth my chest is," he says, "and it's not. So the producers were like, 'Okay, just shave him.' And I was like, 'WHOA. I spent 25 years earning this chest hair. I'm wearing purple tights and a codpiece, so, please, let me keep my manhood.'"

With Leonardo DiCaprio in J. Edgar

Before Prince Charming, however, Armie stars in one the biggest Oscar bait films of this year, J. Edgar, starring as J. Edgar Hoover's protege and lover Clyde Tolson, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio.

When he was first offered the role, he hesitated, but not for the reason you might think:

"It wasn't the gay aspect I had a hard time with," he says. "When I first read the script, it didn't make sense why Clyde would stay around—because 99 percent of the time he's just taking abuse. But then it was explained to me: When you get that little glimmer of hope—like Tolson did—that simple kiss on the forehead, it all seems worth it and you stay."
"Tolson was the only man who treated Hoover like a human," Hammer says, finishing off his cigar. "They had lunch together every day and dinner together every night. Without exception, never missed it."

J.Edgar, with a script by Dustin Lance Black, will be in theaters on November 9th.
