50 Cent Defends DJ Mister Cee Over Transgender Sex Scandal

In case you hadn't heard, Calvin Lebrun (a.k.a. influential hip hop producer and DJ Mister Cee) was arrested last week in a sex sting. The NYPD "Secret Fellatio Task Force" (plum assignment there!) caught him in the back seat of a parked car with twenty-year-old Brooke-Lynn Pinklady.

Mister Cee is a pretty big deal in the hip hop world. He worked as the deejay for Big Daddy Kane and he was a producer on Notoriious B.I.G.'s debut album. Currently, he's a radio DJ for NYC radio station HOT 97.

As you can probably imagine a lot of people in the notoriously homophobic rap community are taking pot shots at him.

Of course, if the married Mister Cee had been caught in a compromising position with a biological woman he probably would've gotten cheers, but getting caught with a guy? That's a serious problem in the hip hop world — and possibly career ending.

So it's actually pretty encouraging that 50 Cent actually stuck his neck out and defended Mister Cee in an interview.

Speaking with Hot 97's Miss Info, here's what the rap star had to say about the scandal...

It's only entertaining because he means that much to hip hop. I recognize Mr. Cee as the guy who offered us Biggie, so he means that much to the culture. Now a lot of the kids who hear the radio don't see him the same way. I've played my album for Mr. Cee, and every album that came out to see what he thought.

When this type of stuff happens, you keep pushing. How about if you say 'I don't care?' Who is to judge you when there's an audience that is probably one of the strongest audiences, if you look at Lady Gaga's career, that says that's fine.

50 Cent has certainly had his run ins with the GLBT community, but good to know he considers us "one of the strongest audiences!" And his sticking up for Mister Cee actually was sort of gutsy.

It's inevitable that people would try to tar him with the gay feather just by speaking out in support.

So, on this occasion at least, hats off to 50 Cent for making a stand!
