Watch! A Very Hairy Paul Rudd in "Our Idiot Brother"

For a lot of folks around here, Paul Rudd has been a favorite ever since he played George Hanson in The Object of My Affection.

Paul Rudd as George. And some woman who would go on to do a
zillion romantic comedies, none nearly as good as this.

Ah, Paul seemed to have so much promise back then! I, for one, was totally in love with him as he pretty much embodied my ideal man. Except the whole "he's straight" thing. Other than that, I was just waiting for him to ask me out.

But ever since TOOMA, Rudd's career has been pretty hit and miss. Yes, he starred in, um, well, I know he's done some good movies, and he's been pretty game during his appearances on Saturday Night Live. But he's also done a lot of bad movies, the most recent of which is the godawful Dinner for Schmucks.

But I confess to being curious when the new trailer for Paul's latest summer comedy, Our Idiot Brother, came out this week.

I'll have to reserve judgment until I actually see the movie, but the trailer seemed both promising (hey, it's got Paul and Zooey Deschanel) and worrisome as there were some pretty lame jokes and plot twists. But I was especially struck by Paul's ... shaggy look.

Here is a more traditional Paul.

I'm not entirely sure what I think of Paul's "bearish" new look. One of the first guys I ever dated bore a certain resemblance to Ned, Paul's character. On the other hand, Ned seems like one of those idiot savant characters who wreak havoc in other people's lives with their stupidity while ultimately teaching them how to really live life. And I'm definitely not a fan of those sorts of folks. Actually, I think that's why I stopped dating that guy in the first place...

But what do you think? You like Paul's look here? Interested in seeing the movie?
