Beatify John Paul II? Oh, Mary, Not So Fast!

In case you missed the news, the Catholic Church is moving at breakneck speed to turn Pope John Paul II into an offiicial saint faster than you can say, "How much to keep quiet about what Father O'Brien did to you?"

That's right -- the man who facilitated the cover-up of the abuse of thousands and thousands of children by Catholic priests -- is now being fastracked by his successor Pope Benedict on the road to sainthood. That process took a big step forward with John Paul's official beatification on Monday in Rome.

Naturally, a lot of folks including those who suffered that sexual abuse, not to mention the GLBT community John Paul persecuted over the course of his life, are objecting to this man being made a saint. Not that it will make any difference, mind you.
