Battle of the Network Gays! It's Ian vs. Saul. vs. Owen vs. Kyle!

Every week we're going to pick the gays who made the biggest splash on television and let you, the keepers of the flame, decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week. We'll announce the winner the following Monday, and that champion will reign until a new set of challengers are unveiled the following week.

Ian Gallagher, Shameless

We finally got to meet Ian Gallagher's Chicago counterpart when Showtime debuted its adaptation of Shameless this week. Thankfully, we weren't disappointed by the translation. First we learn that Ian is a deadly warrior, thanks to his ROTC training (if his dad Frank turns out to be a reliable narrator, at least).

Then we see Ian do a great job handling his brother Lip's various reactions to learning about Ian's sexuality. Most notably, Ian brushed off Lip's comment that "The whole point of the digestive track is one-way traffic" by pointing out that Lip's smoking probably isn't how his lungs were meant to be used.

Saul Hoden, Brothers & Sisters

It's been a rough time for Saul. He's dealt with a late-in-life coming out, learning he's HIV-positive and running into Jonathan, the guy who may have infected him years ago. This week, Saul tried to cut his ties to Jonathan, only to realize he wasn't going to move forward unless he forgave Jonathan and left the past behind.

Saul admitted that they both weren't at their best when they first knew each other. Jonathan was dealing with substance abuse while Saul was dealing with his loneliness. Hopefully, facing his past will make it possible for Saul to have a relationship that lasts for more than an episode or two.

Owen Cavanaugh, The Good Wife

Alicia's brother made a return visit this week and found himself stuck spending time with Alicia's old-fashioned, constantly-disapproving mother-in-law Jackie. At first he responded to her dated views on homosexuality with sarcasm, but then he decided to have a dialogue with Jackie, which let them bond to the point that we next saw Jackie wearing the African wig he brought for Alicia.

Kyle, Grey's Anatomy

Grey's Anatomy is known for its stories about patients facing a heartbreaking medical crisis and this week delivered a true gut-wrencher, thanks to a guest appearance by Wilson Cruz.

Attempting to make their trip to sign domestic partnership papers special, Kyle hired a horse-drawn carriage to take them to city hall and bagpipe players as a nod to his partner Brady's Scottish heritage.

Unfortunately, the bagpipes spooked the horses, leading to Brady being trampled. There was plenty of reason for Kyle to be upset ... he started the day hoping he'd remember it fondly for the rest of his life, and instead he found himself in a hospital waiting room, worried that his efforts to create a special day ended up hurting the man he loved.

Vote for your favorite by Noon EST Sunday. Be sure to check back on Monday to see who you've picked as Gay of the Week!
