Battle of the Network Gays! It's Smithers vs. Kevin & Scotty vs. Calvin vs. Cooper!

Every week we're going to pick the gays who made the biggest splash on television and let you, the keepers of the flame, decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week. We'll announce the winner the following Monday, and that champion will reign until a new set of challengers are unveiled the following week.

Waylon Smithers, The Simpsons

After learning that Mister Burns would never respect him unless he were a self-made man, Smithers made a difficult move and left his job at Mister Burns' side. Seeing an opportunity between Moe's struggling tavern and the exclusivity of the gay bar across the street, Smithers transformed Moe's Tavern from a dive bar where despair goes to die into a busy gay bar, earning Mister Burns' respect.

Unfortunately, Smithers was forced to choose between principle and business. It turned out Moe was letting patrons think he was gay, even running for City Council as the first openly-gay candidate. Not being able to let the deception stand, Smithers outed Moe as straight and the bar went back to reeking of spilled beer and quiet desperation.

Kevin & Scotty, Brothers & Sisters

This week, Kevin & Scotty brought Olivia home for the first time, getting another reminder that nothing can prepare you for the tribulations of being a parent. After being occasionally puzzled when Olivia failed to respond to text messages or play Scotty's home version of Supermarket Sweep, Kevin and Scotty realized they had one more challenge ahead of them. In her years in the system, Olivia was never taught how to read.

Calvin Owens, Greek

When Calvin and Cappie became partners on a philosophy project together, we learned something surprising about Calvin. He's not the focused young man following an extended life plan people presume him to be. It turns out that, just like Cappie, Calvin has no idea what he wants to do in life or what he wants to get out of his Cyprus-Rhodes education, save for spending time with Heath. Calvin admitted he hasn't even figured out his major.

It's a new revelation for Calvin and a welcome new challenge for him. So far, Calvin's stories  have focused on his romantic relationships, his friendship with Rusty or his place in Greek politics. Watching Calvin search for his purpose in life will be a welcome new dimension.

Officer John Cooper, Southland

This week, Cooper had a new issue to face down as Ben had become a ticking emotional time bomb thanks to the revelation that his mother's assailant has been released from prison. Despite Ben's attempts to claim they're just checking out  a great burger stand or that a guy needs to be followed because he looks too nervous, Cooper knew something was up. When Ben finally cracked and had to be stopped from beating a suspect, Cooper stepped in and firmly let Ben know that he needed to get his emotions in check. Once again, we got another solid example of Cooper's competence at law enforcement.

Vote for your favorite by Noon EST Sunday. Be sure to check back on Monday to see who you've picked as Gay of the Week!
