Battle of the Network Gays! It's Pepper vs. Josh vs. Raja vs. Ian!

Every week we're going to pick the gays who made the biggest splash on television and let you, the keepers of the flame, decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week. We'll announce the winner the following Monday, and that champion will reign until a new set of challengers are unveiled the following week.

Here are this week's nominees:

Pepper Salzman, Modern Family

Mitchell Pritchett had a breakthrough moment with his father Jay this week, and he couldn't have done it without the help of his friend Pepper. As Mitchell cringed at the idea of his father being exposed to gay men discussing celebrity crushes and laughing at innuendos, Pepper was able to use his charms and his common experiences with Jay to create a comfortable atmosphere where Mitchell felt free to be himself.

Josh Flagg, Million Dollar Listing

Working on his memoir, Josh Flagg had a choice in how he addressed his love life. Until now, he's avoided the topic (the only relationship viewers saw was the one between Josh and his grandmother), but Josh decided not to hide an important part of his life in his book, and viewers met his boyfriend Colton.

It's always encouraging to see GLBT people come out and show the world the diversity of the gay community. Million Dollar Listing fans already know Josh for his dealmaking, his tendency to put out extra effort when showing a home, as well as his closeness to his grandmother. Knowing Josh is a gay man in a long term relationship should be another way for viewers to get to know him.

Raja, RuPaul's Drag Race

This week the dolls were challenged to reinterpret a RuPaul song into different genres, and Raja was lucky enough  to claim a genre she loved, punk. Her love of punk came through in her performance, which encapsulated its angry, confrontational nature, as well as a look that captured its anti-conformist philosophy. Delivering both the style and the substance, Raja was awarded a well-earned victory.

Ian Gallagher, Shameless

When Lip and Ian decided to seek out Ian's biological father, they seemed to find a strong candidate in the form of Clayton Gallagher, Frank's upper middle-class brother, who looked like Ian hit by an aging ray.

However, meeting "Uncle" Clayton quickly became uncomfortable, as his wife noticed the resemblance between Ian and her husband. While Lip was unconcerned with the trouble their visit was causing, it prompted Ian to make a quick exit. That gave us a sharp contrast between Ian and his brother, as Lip saw a chance for Ian to escape the low income neighborhood where they lived and the burden of having Frank Gallagher as a father, and Ian clearly having no interest in leaving his siblings behind so that he could live a nicer life.

Vote for your favorite by Midnight PST Sunday. Be sure to check back on Monday to see who you've picked as Gay of the Week!
