Battle of the Network Gays! It's Elton vs. Manila vs. Marshall vs. Andrew!

Every week we're going to pick the gays who made the biggest splash on television and let you, the keepers of the flame, decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week. We'll announce the winner the following Monday, and that champion will reign until a new set of challengers are unveiled the following week.

Here are this week's nominees:

Elton John, Saturday Night Live

Elton John made his return to Saturday Night Live this week, performing double-duty as host and musical guest. He lived up to the tasks admirably, with a monologue that made fun of John's new role as a father, playing a gay cowboy who rides into town, and a memorable jab at Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark.

Manila Luzon, RuPaul's Drag Race

Things didn't look so good for Manila this week when the dolls were asked to transform a straight jock into a drag sister. Manila's jock Matt had strong masculine facial features that would be a challenge to feminize, and worse, in rehearsal he showed little understanding of how women moved and laughed off Manila's attempts to correct him.

However, once it was time to hit the runway, there was a dramatic change and Matt had fully transformed into Fuschia Luzon, a true drag sister to Manila in appearance, demeanor and personality. That convincing and thorough transformation earned Manila a win for the week.

Marshall Gregson, United States of Tara

In film class, Marshall and Lionel found themselves "randomly" assigned to work in a group that consisted of the only three gay students plus the sole disabled student. Once it became clear their group wasn't really selected randomly and their teacher expressed his expectation for "razzmatazz" and "pathos", Marshall decided to turn those expectations upside down.

The beginning of the film looked like something inspired by Merchant Ivory, but quickly turned into a violent battle scene ending with Lionel's head getting stomped. It was Marshall's very entertaining way to rebel against anybody expecting him to behave a certain way just because he's gay, but also something very true to Moosh.

Andrew van de Kamp, Desperate Housewives

We haven't seen Andrew in a while, but he returned this week as his mother started to realize he was drinking heavily. Considering how Bree battled alcoholism a few years earlier, she could see Andrew had a problem and worked to get him help.

Bree and Andrew have long had a pattern of pushing each other away and then finding a reason to work together against a problem. Thankfully, after rejecting his mother's initial attempts to get him to face his addiction, he opened up to her about the way he struggled with boredom and loneliness.

Vote for your favorite by Midnight PST Sunday. Be sure to check back on Monday to see who you've picked as Gay of the Week!
