Battle of the Network Gays! It's Cam & Mitchell vs. Zac vs. Kevin vs. Scotty!

Who gets the coveted crown?

Every week we're going to pick the gays we think have made the biggest splash in television and leave it to you, the keepers of the flame, to decide who will be crowned Gay of the Week. We'll announce the winner the following Monday, and that champ will reign until a new set of challengers are introduced the following week to try to steal the title.

The nominees will include a mix of scripted characters and reality contestants, but will not include real people appearing on news programs. However, a real person who hosts a show like the Emmys or Saturday Night Live will be eligible. Basically, the program they appear on has to be entertainment/pop culture which is what we mostly cover here at AfterElton.

For example, if Dan Savage makes a memorable cable news appearance, he won't be eligible. But if Neil Patrick Harris hosts SNL, he will probably be nominated.

Now on to the nominees!

Mitchell & Cameron, Modern Family

While the episode never quite came together for a lot of people, there was a lot to love in this week's Modern Family. Most notably, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) disagreed on whether Lily should star in a commercial. But the disagreement took into account the decision making power balance in a same-sex household, and Cameron felt his opinion counted for less because Mitchell earned the money. Normal gender roles don't fit in a same-sex relationship (or many modern opposite-gender ones) and have to be negotiated. Kudos to the writers for not shying away from the question.

In the end, they came together as parents with the best interests of their daughter at heart, which is all that matters, really.

Zac Young, Top Chef: Just Desserts

While Yigit has gotten a lot of the attention around here, this week it was Zac Young's turn to shine on Top Chef: Just Desserts. And boy, did he let his flame shine bright. Whipping up desserts that were in tribute to Julie Andrews is a gay touch that wasn't lost on the judges, with Daily Candy Judge Lady says, his dessert was “a hoot.”

Zac scored the win – his first Elimination Challenge win ever – and flushed with pride. He says he thought Julie Andrews was watching over him for this challenge.

Scotty Wandell, Brothers & Sisters

This week we learned that Scotty (Luke MacFarlane) isn't actually the perfect man. He cheated on Kevin (Matthew Rhys), and didn't tell him for a long time. When Uncle Saul let him have it, Scotty didn't make excuses. And when the man he cheated with showed up as a waiter, all Scotty wanted to do was get him out so that Kevin wouldn't have to face him.

While Scotty done his man wrong, the blame isn't all his and and all he wants now is for them to find a way back to each other.

Kevin Walker, Brothers & Sisters

Kevin (Matthew Rhys) is little more than a raw wound at this point. He'd only recently broken through his emotional block around the accident that killed Robert (Rob Lowe), and just when he started experiencing a year's worth of emotions, he found out his husband cheated on him. Now he also needs to deal with the fact that his own distance in the relationship had at least some culpability in what happened.

Kevin may have slept at his sister's place, and he may not yet be ready to come home, but he did take the step of talking to Scotty. And the road back may be truly groundbreaking for network television.

Vote for your favorite by 11 PM EDT Sunday. And be sure to check back Monday to see which network gay our readers have carried to glory!
