Newsweek's Next Cover: Marilyn at 90

You've got to hand it to that Tina Brown, she certainly knows how to make a splash in the otherwise moribund magazine industry. Her latest controversial move: putting a digitally-aged photo of Princess Diana on the cover of Newsweek and asking (and claiming to answer) what Di's life would be like were she alive today.

According to Tina, Diana's arms would doubtless still be toned from the gym... and she'd have had some "strategic botox" to keep that jawline firm. Speaking of jawlines, mine dropped when I read that, were Diana alive today, her best male friend would be Prince Charles! Oh please.

This, the cover story of a "serious" major U.S. weekly. It might have been a slow news week, but that hardly excuses a dumb Newsweek!

Unfortunately, this will probably wind up being one of the most popular editions of the magazine in years. A cover that pandering and creepy is likely to be a collector's item.

It could also be the start of a coming trend in ghoulish MSM slashfic. No doubt Tina and her Newsweek minions are already hard at work on "Marilyn at 90!" What her life is like today in Boca, plus details on that endorsement deal with Rascal scooters.

There's no shortage of gone-too-soon celebrities to grave rob. For instance, what would Heath Ledger be doing these days? Would he be up for the lead in Superman? Holding out for more money for Brokeback 2? Would ex-wife Michelle Williams now be his best female friend? Inquiring minds want to know!

What dead celebrity do you enjoy imagining still alive? Share the details of their life today in the comments. Who knows, maybe Tina will lift the idea for her next Newsweek cover story!
