News, Reviews & Commentary on Gay and Bisexual Men in Entertainment and the Media

Pet Shop Boys

Start spreading the news: It's Liza's birthday!

That deafening sound you hear is gay men all over the world wishing a spirited HAPPY BIRTHDAY! to the one and only Liza Minnelli. The Oscar, Tony, Emmy, and Grammy winning legend turns 62 today.

Aside from her many artistic accomplishments, Liza is, of course, one of the Grande Dames of the peculiar condition that affects gay men known as diva worship. Considering her mother was Judy Garland, one of the first and greatest gay divas, it was probably inevitable that Liza would be the torch-bearer for the next generation.

From her battles with addiction to her weight fluctuations to her topsy-turvy career (remember Rent A Cop?), and her marriage to David Gest, we love Liza because she is first and foremost a survivor.

Hopefully, our birthday wish to Liza will come true, and she'll stay happy and healthy for decades to come. And maybe, just maybe, she'll treat her fans to another work of genius like Results, her album with Pet Shop Boys, the greatest collaboration in the history of pop music!

You can see the video for one of the classics from that 1989 album, "Don't Drop Bombs", after the jump.

Videodrama: Musical Edition with Darren Hayes, Grizzly Bear, and more!

Thanks to Arjanwrites, I caught wind of Darren Hayes new video "On the Verge of Something Wonderful" from Hayes upcoming CD This Delicate Thing We've Made. In case you've forgotten, Hayes is the former member of Savage Garden who recently came out -- and his video reflects that sense of newfound freedom. I never paid much attention to Savage Garden, but based on the strength of this single, I'm looking forward to the album. (Although I find the video's use of Janice Dickinson to be rather odd!)

Rounding out our Videodrama: Musical Edition, I've also got another clip from Grizzly Bear which features the out singer Ed Droste (interviewed on the mainpage today, the orginal video for "Go West" from the Pet Shop Boys which is the gayest song with the least gay video I've ever seen, and Houston Bernard's "Say Goodbye" which is currently Number Two on Logoonline's Click List.

Enjoy!
